Ideal:

6:45 wake up and shower/get ready
7:25-7:45 eat breakfast and Nanny arrives
7:46- leave the house
7:56- at work a few mins early
3:00- leave work
3:01-3:45 quick workout
3:55 arrive home and nanny is already gone since dh is home and playing with LO at 3pm
4-7 play with LO, cook and eat dinner, tidy up
7 pm bath and bed for LO
7:30-10:00 hang out with DH
10pm sleep!

Reality
5:34 alarm, hit snooze until
5:50 get up and quick shower
6:20 breakfast and pack milk and water for the day pile everything by the door
6:45 wake up LO, she's fussing because she's still tired
7:34 Arrive at daycare, drop off
7:45 at work so I can go through my schedule for the day
6:15pm leave work
6:25 arrive home, scramble for dinner, dh is feeding LO a snack already. She refuses to eat any real food
7:00 lo has a melt down while we're eating dinner. Huge yawns
7:10 bath and bedtime for lo
7:30 exhausted on the couch

@mediagirl: I also love how your work day is 2.5 hours shorter!

I would say that our schedule is fairly close to ideal. I do feel pretty rushed in the mornings but that doesn't mean I plan to wake up my LO any earlier! Our schedule is:

6:00 - alarm goes off but I usually stay in bed until 6:20-ish
6:25 - shower and get ready
7-7:30 - get LO out of bed (as early as 7 if he is awake but I let him sleep in as late as 7:30), change, breakfast
7:50 - out the door
7:55 - arrive at daycare
4:45-5 - pick up from daycare
5:10 - arrive home, prep dinner
6:00 - have dinner
6:30-6:45 - start bedtime
7:00-7:15 - LO in bed
2-3 hours of downtime that includes watching TV, working on craft projects, going to the gym or surfing the internet.

@septca: Seems like STTN is the way to get the routine start working.

I saw a pic of Gisele doing yoga with her baby and it made me think of my ideal vs. reality.

We have a pretty smooth routine, but there are things I am in the process of changing. Now that DD STTN and has a fairly predictable wake up time, I need to start getting to the gym in the mornings. DH and I are going to wake up a bit earlier every morning and then trade off days at the gym. The days I am home I will do some yoga and just revel in the quiet.

@blackbird: I've had plenty of unproductive weekends which translates to take-out for dinner, me wearing dirty clothes, and our apartment looking like the Tasmanian Devil came through it.

@mrsjazz, yeah, i admit i am a morning person! But if i wasn't, i would probably be up later than 9pm every day ;) I haven't had a weekend, yet, where the weekend was not productive. I'm not sure how I'll handle it when we go out of town for the weekend, for example. Weekends are so key.

@Anagram: Thank you! Hmm, I think I didn't put enough ideals in my post. It would be awesome if someone else packed our lunches and got out our clothes.

The get angry at husband for no real reason happens for me, too. Today it was because LO's toothbrush was not where it was supposed to be

Best thread ever!

IDEAL:

7:00 am wakeup
7:00-7:45 someone else feeds my baby, packs my lunch, and washes and packs my pump parts while I get dressed and pack my lunch
7:45: nanny arrives and I leave for work
7:50 arrive at work before students come in at 8

3:00 leave work
3:05 arrive home and let nanny go home
3:05-6:45 play will LO and cook a delightful dinner
7:00 have dinner ready and baby bathed and ready for bed when husband arrives home
7:15 Husband puts LO to sleep
7:30 Eat with DH, watch TV or exercise
10:30 Bed

REALITY:

5:45: wakeup. stumble to kitchen for coffee. Feel like zombie.
5:50-6:00: shower
6:00-6:30 pump while blowdrying hair, getting bottom half dressed, haphazardly putting on makeup
6:30-6:45 run around house in a tornado of destruction, occasionally cursing while throwing food for breakfast and lunch into lunch bag, washing and packing pump parts, looking for my socks and car keys and dressing my top half. Simultaneously. Get angry at my husband for no real reason.
6:50-7:50 Fight traffic during morning commute. Call and text hubby about a million things you forgot to do at home
8-3 work (pump twice at work). Somehow always get caught at work after school.
3:30 leave work. Stop at grocery store on the way home to pick up something DH has texted that we are totally out of and need TODAY.
5: arrive home. Play with LO and sit in an exhausted heap. Pump while semi ignoring LO. Prepare dinner by throwing pasta in a pot of water to boil and opening a jar of sauce. For the third time in a week.
7: DH arrives home.
7:30 bathe baby together. Prepare bottle, pajamas, etc for Dh to do bedtime.
8:30. eat. veg in front of computer/tv
10: pump again
11: bed

@blackbird: Looking forward to smooth! Yes, weekend prep is key for us, too. Now just gotta get this girl off the boob and out of my bed! Ha! I did this to myself though  It worked really really well in the beginning. I also refuse to wake up earlier than I have to...not being a morning person is one thing I'm NOT ready to give up because I'm a mother.

We have a really smooth week routine. It's gotten 10x better now that E STTN 95% of the time. I get up at 5:30 to do some cleaning or chores around the house. Usually unload the dishes and such. I prep food on the weekends so I can get dinner on the table in < 30 min. My husband and I tag team everything we can. I don't have any of the BFing issues because we FF.

I try not to lament over what I can't have, just how I can make what I have work better. Efficiency is the name of my game :)

@Adira: Ugh 4:30 a.m. How do you do that?!?!

@cheert16: I have 3 separate alarms on my phone, too. And I snooze through them all often. I have the problem of lying in bed thinking of everything that needs to get done, too. I can easily stay up for 2 hours with just my mind racing...hence the reason I bought a sound machine for myself! haha

Ideal:
6:30 Wake up and work out
7:30 Get in shower and get dressed
8:00 Wake up LO - morning snuggles- get him dressed
8:30 Feed LO breakfast
8:50 Get bags ready and put in my car
9:00 Leave for daycare
9:20 Arrive at daycare- drop him off and chat with teacher for a bit
9:35 On my way to work
10:20 Arrive at work- since I got in early I can get out early
8:00 Leave work to head home
9:00 arrive home- LO is in bed already but DH is still up
9:00-9:30 Spend some time with DH talking about our days-etc.
9:30 Get all stuff ready for daycare the next day- including outfits for both DS and myself (ironed and ready to go)
10:15 head to bed

REALITY:
4:00am-4:30am DS wakes up to eat- also he thinks its playtime
4:50 DH leaves for work
5:45 LO falls back asleep- and so do I
6:30 My alarm goes off- good thing I set 3 different alarms for different times on my phone because I totally ignore this one
6:45 Another alarm- ignore it
7:00 Another alarm- ignore it
7:15 LO wakes up to nurse- apparently this is going to be a marathon session
8:15 Look at clock and freak out- time to shower and get dressed- first change a poopy diaper
8:45 half dressed- taking out the iron to iron my clothes- run and grab LO's clothes from the basket of clothes I never put away from the last (two) times I did his laundry
8:55 LO poops again- urg!
9:05 downstairs we are both dressed- make LO some breakfast and feed him
9:25 Realize I never washed my pump parts from last night- oh crap I don't have enough milk for todays daycare either- defrosting milk and getting bottles ready while washing pump parts
9:40 LO in carseat- start running bags out to the car
9:45-9:55 in the car- Leave for daycare (text her I am running late)
10:10-10:!5 Arrive at daycare- drop him off
10:!5 crap I am outta gas- stop to fill up
11:!5 Arrive at work- LATE!...again
9:00 leave work to head home
10:00 Arrive home- grab something fast for a snack- usually terrible for me.
11:00-11:30 pump again because I didn't get enough at work to cover daycare for tomorrow
11:30 Remember I need to wash some bottles- start sanitizing them- get halfway through and decide that's enough- nope didn't do the pump parts
Midnight: lay in bed- mentally go over the list of the 6000 things I need to do tomorrow at work-- unwind by reading for a bit
1:00am oh man- its been an hour- go to sleep

5:00 Wake up. 5:00 - 5:45 Elliptical and weight training. 5:45 - 6:30 Shower, makeup, get dressed. 6:30 - 6:55 Get DD up, dressed, fed, packed. 6:55 Leave the house. 7:00 at daycare. 7:30 at work.

IDEAL EVENING:
5:00 Pick up DD from daycare. 5:30 Eat dinner with DH and DD at table. 6:00 Do dishes and clean kitchen/table. 6:30 - 7:00 Bath, stories, playtime, jammies, DD in bed. 7:00 - 8:00 DH and I do weight training, elliptical, P90X, whatev. 8:00 - 9:00 TV. 9:00 - 10:00 Quick shower, read, hang out, sleep.

Realistic:
5:00 alarm goes off, say eff that and re-set for 6:30. 6:30 Hit snooze and wake up at 6:40. 6:40 - 6:50 Run around like crazy to throw on clean clothes, slap eyeliner on, try to remember deodorant and teethbrushing. 6:50 - 7:15 Get DD ready and be sad that I don't get morning cuddles. 7:25 at Daycare. 7:25 - 7:40 Hang around daycare to chat and cuddle with DD because the morning was so rough. 8:10 Get to work.
Evening reality is similar, except after DD goes to bed DH and I are too tired to be productive so we just watch TV instead of work out.

It was interesting to write it out. If I would just get up 1.5 hours earlier, my day would start out SO MUCH better!

@looch: She does eat breakfast at child care, but she likes a small breakfast, too, at home. Most mornings she's trying to get the fridge open to get some cheese! I would get up earlier if she would let me sleep!

@mrsjazz: I know, I hate it....which is why I go to bed so ridiculously early, plus we cosleep and my son usually wakes up at least once a night. I am so NOT the poster child for sleeping routines, so I can not help you there.

I think you might have to get up earlier, lol. I am not talking 5 am, but a few minutes to get yourself organized? What if your LO had breakfast at her destination?

@looch: Yeah, I cook simple things, too, so the dinner at 7 p.m. is one part of our routine that really works. DH is usually out of the apartment either before LO and I get up so I've got her all to myself making it super hard and distracting some mornings.

I can't believe you get up at 5:30 a.m. I am NOT a morning person!

Our day looks like this:

5:15 my husband wakes up and showers
5:30 I wake up and get dressed, do hair, makeup
5:45 kid wakes up, drinks milk, gets changed for the day by my husband
6:00 Husband gets dressed while our son watches 1 video as a reward for getting dressed well
6:15 Get coats on, head to the car
6:30 arrive at my parents house, unload
7:00 either in the office or on the train, commuting

4:00 begin commute home (on local days, home by 4:30, on distance days, home by 6)
6:30 finish dinner
6:45 I begin bathtime for my son, when it's time for jammies my husband takes over and I take a shower
7:30 me and son in bed, husband usually goes to bed in the next hour or so

How do we do this? My mom handles drop off at daycare, she also packs my son's breakfast and lunch. During the week, I do absolutely no chores unless it is an emergency, like sickness (clothes don't get washed, floors don't get mopped). I do all laundry and ironing on Sunday, I also cook very simple things and 2 days a week we eat at my parents house.

I realize this is a crazy situation, and it might not apply, but there you go!

I thought it would be cool to talk about what we would ideally love our routines (morning & evening) to look like versus the reality. If you already have your ideal routine, how the hell did you get there? If you don't, what do you think you can do to achieve it?

My LO is 18 months.

IDEAL MORNING:
Wake up at 7. Do 15-20 minutes of yoga & stretching/dance party with LO. Something light to eat (toast/tea banana). Get LO dressed. Get myself dressed. Make sure we both have our lunch bags packed. Read a couple of books together. Out of the house by 9, arrive at childcare at 9:15, at work by 9:45

IDEAL EVENING:
Get home at 6:30. Make a quick dinner. Eat together at 7 p.m.
LO gets bath around 7:45. Story, song, nurse. LO Asleep by 8:30
LO SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT! Pack lunch bags for me and LO. Take out clothes for me and LO. Shower. Relax/TV/Craft/Interwebs for 1-2 hours.

REALITY:
Wake up at 8/8:10 after snoozing since 7 because LO woke up a few times in the middle of the night wanting to play. So tired!
Most days I run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get our lunches packed because I've fallen asleep with LO the night before and didn't pack them. Give LO some banana or toast and something to drink. Get her dressed, then myself. She goes to the bathroom and plays in the water getting her sleeves wet, ugh. Some mornings we do squeeze a couple of books in. Chase LO around the apartment trying to get her coat on. Text nanny to let her know we are running late. Leave apartment at 9:05-9:15 a.m. Still get to work on time. Get home at 6:45 and we have dinner by 7 with Jeopardy. (ha!) Bath and story for LO. Nurse and then I fall asleep with her and my husband never wakes me back up. LO wakes up to party between 2-5 a.m. We both fall back to sleep until 8 or when DH says goodbye for the morning.

In order to make my ideal happen I REALLY REALLY need LO to start sleeping in her own bed and stop nursing. I also need DH to start helping with the bedtime (he does do bathtime). I've been starting with trying to get her to sleep in her bed. Next will be weaning, I don't think I could do both things at once.
