@kodybear: @adira: my almost 3 year old clearly knows how to walk independently but still likes my husband to carry him. Love my husband that he has him in one arm and the baby in the car seat on the other arm!

DH handles drop off and I handle pickup. But this can switch sometimes if one of us has an early morning meeting. Or other times if one of us is busier than the other at work, we'll do both pickup and drop off. It's pretty flexible since we pretty much have the same schedule and commute time.

Adding another kid to the mix doesn't really change things too much except it might take longer to get them out the door in the mornings. I'm thinking once they go to two separate schools we'll both have to do both pickups and dropouts for each child.

@kodybear: ah yes I had this issue too! Many days I would leave DS in the car - take DD in then grab DS - what a pain!

@kodybear: That's a good point about carrying LO #1. Ours will be 22 months apart and we often carry him in and out of daycare too at the moment! We'll need to start having him walk so that he gets used to it so that when LO #2 starts, we just have to carry the stuff and LO #2 and LO #1 can walk himself in and out! Good tip!

lo#2 is about 2.5 weeks away from starting daycare but i do dropoff for lo#1 with lo#2 in tow. i'll probably be doing dropoff but i'm not sure about pickup. dh usually does pickup but if we want to do that with lo#2 i'll have to bring in the infant car seat which is super heavy when you're carrying all the other stuff as well.

my kids are 20 months apart and something i wish i knew b4 having lo#2 is that i wish i taught lo#1 to walk into daycare vs me holding her!! bc now i have to carry lo#2 in a carrier and then carry lo#1 plus all her stuff. she's getting better about walking but i wish i had encouraged it more beforehand!

I WAH most of the time and DH handles the mornings completely .because I need to be on the phone. I do most of the pickups.

We prep daycare bags and lunches the night before.

DH will probably drop and pick up E for about 2 weeks. I plan on doing all drop offs but he'll pick up E. E's pretty easy in the morning--diaper, change of clothes, handful of thawed pancakes, take her to T's house, drop her off, come home. Less than 7 minute roundtrip. Baby #2 will probably just go in its jammies and I probably won't bring a diaper bag or anything since she lives so close to us.

My husband drops both kids off every morning and we take turns picking up in the evening depending on who can get to them first. My husband gets our almost 3 year old ready in the morning and I get our almost 6 month old ready because I am nursing. Neither of us can imagine getting both ready by ourselves but thankfully our schedules allow for teamwork!

We do both dropoff and pickup together, but on Wednesdays I do pickup and bedtime alone. Not gonna lie, it can be pretty difficult the first few times, but I'm used to it now. The most difficult thing is getting home at 5:30, figuring out dinner and doing their bedtimes now that LMW is going through yet another sleep regression.

For all of their daycare stuff we prep it all the night before and put it by the door. Lunches packed the night before and put in the fridge, so in the mornings we just put the ice pack in and shove it in their backpacks.

We divide and conquer. Towards the end of last year. I would do the dishes and make breakfast, then Bee would take over and pack lunch while I fed the kids. Then I would do dropoffs, since they were in the same direction.

Now the kids are at two different schools at two different times in two different directions, so we each usually do one dropoff and pickup.

We both get up together for the day. DH does drop off and pick up and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

I'd imagine I will be getting DD2 ready for the day and him DD 2. And he'll watch both while I get ready. He doesn't have to be at work till 10 I work more of a 8-4 job.

@Applesandbananas: We actually did this a lot with Xander when he was still a baby! We also usually just sent him to daycare in his pjs anyway, haha. But given his current tendency to overflow his diaper and soak his pjs, this plan won't work at the moment! Although hopefully by the time baby #2 is here, we'll have figured that out!

One of my mom friends said she gets both LOs dressed in their daycare clothes the night before so in the morning, she just changes diapers and goes!

We've only got one LO but we've taken this approach a few times and it's a huge time saver! I only dress LO in knit pants and onesies for daycare because I always want him to be super comfy, and his pjs are pretty similar, so I don't think it's a big deal. I wouldn't do it if it meant he'd be sleeping in jeans or something.

@Mamaof2: Thanks for all that!! Fortunately for me (??), I probably won't be doing the daycare drop-off, so Hubs will be in charge of getting both kids up and ready for the day! I'm just wondering if he'll be able to handle it or if he'll need help and I'll need to adjust my hours.

When Xander was nursing, I would nurse him and then put him back in his crib and he usually fell back asleep and then I'd pump and leave for work. Hubs would get him up about an hour later to bring to daycare. I'm hoping that will work for baby #2 as well - then hopefully they will both be sleeping and Hubs can get up Xander and then the baby and then just go! We will also definitely prepare all food/bottles/etc the night before so Hubs just has to grab from the fridge!

I'm thinking pick-up will be easier. Grab Xander from his room, go get the baby, get them both in the car (that will be the hard part probably)!

@Adira: Its all on me! Kids don't wake up until 6 or 630.

I wont lie at 1st it was hard!!! 2 kids, 2 nap mats, 2 lunches, etc etc.

Trying to get them in the car seat - all the crap in the car, etc. It was exhausting but after time I fell into a groove (they are 3.5 and 6 now) and I can do it with my eyes closed!

When DD was little I would usually get DS ready for the day and then let him watch TV while I nursed DD and got her dressed.

Also lunches were made the night before and everything was sitting on the bench by the garage door ready to go (well, except lunch which was in the frig).

Also in those early months I usually showered at night and wore my hair pulled back - not showering in the morning saved me lots of time!

You can do this!

@Mamaof2: Do you also have to get both kids up and ready for the day or is your husband able to help out with that? Curious if that's just too much for one person to handle.

My DH works 90 mins away so I do pick up and drop off for both kids (DCP opens at 7am and he leaves for work at 5am - they close at 6pm and he gets home at 630pm)

I would LOVE to be able to just do 1 but its not possible

Curious how this works for your family!!

Currently we only have one LO with another on the way. Hubs handles daycare drop-offs entirely by himself (he gets Xander up and dressed and brings him to daycare), and then I do pick-up. I'm wondering if we'll need to change this tactic when there are two of them to get up and ready for the day.

What does your family do?
