I got ku with M just 3 months after losing S, and he came right on cue. Probably wasn't the best idea for my hormones, but I have no regrets. :)

We'll have a nearly three year age gap between kids. It's what made sense for our family. I felt recovered enough physically and emotionally to get pregnant again. I worried about too big of an age gap too.

@Torchwood: our loss wasn't as late--only 20 weeks, but we had to wait just 2 cycles. It took is 6 more, but our lo is a year old and just fine. I ended up having a section with her, even though I delivered our first. So now we are waiting for our next one.

Mine are 15 months apart, and my on didn't seem to blink an eye. He said at 6 months pp I should be healed and have no issues, and this after the first was a csection. I didn't go into labor with either baby, and our daughter is perfectly fine

My mom had my brother 12 months after me and my other brother 17 months after him. I was the only one that she didn't go to term with(4 weeks early), and both my brothers were late. Neither of them have issues.

My doctor has never brought up waiting to TTC before. I had my children 17 months apart. I don't think I would have another so close to my youngest because of my extremely precipitous birth. I do think in my case if I had another and did not space the next one out further that it would be a more premature delivery with possible complications.

I had my first LO at 34 weeks and waited 18 months as OB suggested. I still had DD at 37 weeks and they only thing that kept her in there that long was progesterone. Considering I already struggle staying pregnant regardless of how long inbetween pregnancies, a bigger concern for me is age, I'm 36.

Interesting. I originally wanted to start TTC #2 at around 14 months or so... But right now we're already NTNP. I doubt I'll be getting pregnant anytime soon considering the issues I had conceiving DD. I probably won't get pregnant until I wean, I doubt I'll get AF before that.

I guess it makes sense since your body goes through so much so fast. Yes, it was more common to have lots of babies close together in the past, but the mortality rate was higher, too? Just a guess!

My OB told me to wait at least 6 months (after c-section).

Interestingly, the county I live in has PSA posters in the office where we pick up birth certificates encouraging mothers to wait at least 2 years before having another child --"Just us for 2 years" is the slogan.

Bear with me as I nerd out a bit: I remember in college reading a study about birth spacing and nursing frequency in the !Kung tribe of hunter-gathers. The frequent nursing (something like every 15 minutes) was one of the reasons researchers thought there was such a long spacing between births (something like 3 years). I thought it was really interesting. Of course there is a lot of variation among cultures of their birth spacing. This example just stuck with me over the many many years since college ;-)

It highlights many of the medical and non-medical things that affect different age gaps. But the summary I got from it was that it does take some time to replenish stores and heal. Realistically though "an increased chance of X" is probably just slight enough to be significant and doesn't impact most people. But it's an interesting read for sure!

My 1st two are 20 months apart and I really like that age gap. My second did come earlier at 37+5 because of low fluid. The doctor told me to wait at least 6 months to try again. That would give my body time to heal from the c section.

For me, I can't wait forever because of my age. I didn't have any trouble getting pregnant but I know I am now 36 and my years of fertility are decreasing.

I wonder if our situation is different at all since I only went to 33 weeks last time. They just told us to wait at least 3 cycles after AF came back. And this was from a MFM specialist. Interesting. But hey, I'm terrified of needing an induction, so maybe it'll work out that I'm less likely to go past term and need one for that.

My body didn't make it with the first baby to full term and my doctors stressed that I wait at least a year to try for another. My body definitely needed time to heal. We're still on the fence about #2 but we're already past the 12 month mark. I think it varies by person but it is definitely something people should consider.
