Irregular bleeding, especially in the first 6mos of use is pretty common with Mirena. When I had my first one I had spotting off and on (mostly on) for about 7 weeks -- then no bleeding at all.

The heavy bleeding is definitely worth following up on though. Irregular (and sometimes heavy) bleeding postpartum isn't unusual, but, I'd sure feel better knowing it was a postpartum thing rather than a problem with my IUD.

I would call.

I didn't have a lot of bleeding like that. But I got really nauseous for weeks after I got mine. I then had heavy spotting for months like a regular period.

@lilyofthewest: it's a mirena. The flow varies from barely there to every few days being like.... Murder scene heavy. Never any clots or anything but it's starting to freak me out. I have a follow up scheduled next week but I was hoping to get some kind of feedback before then because my OB office isn't great about phone calls.

Which type of IUD? And how heavy is your flow?

Regardless, a call to your provider never hurts.

Okay guys, so I'm starting to get worried and can't find much on google. After having my baby in July, we decided an IUD was the best fit BC wise. I had it put in 8weeks pp on Sept 3. It had only been two weeks at that point that I stopped bleeding, and I still had a couple random spotting days until about a week before putting it in. The first time we had sex post IUD, I started bleeding again. Haven't stopped. It's been three weeks.

Normal, or should I be concerned? When does it stop if it is normal?
