@Purpledaisy: We followed the same method @blackbird: mentioned (Oh, Crap Potty Training) and were really successful. One of the points I remember from the book is you need to have a plan to potty train and you need to have confidence in your plan (because potty training is HARD and LO will test your resolve)!

Maybe take a step back for a few days, formulate a plan and try again.

@Purpledaisy: we have also used a full wipes box as a stool, FYI. Not ideal but something for her to rest her feet on until you can buy one. That's also how C brushed her teeth for a few weeks until I actually needed the wipes.

DD really fought me on sitting on the potty the first time we tried to potty train.
I made a big deal out of it when ever she would sit down but tried hard to not make a negative association if she didn't want to. She's a really busy kid so getting her to sit still was tough. Forget waiting for pee to come out. The first few days she held her bladder something fierce and would wiggle and dance around but refuse to sit on the potty.
I'm not proud but I gave her an ice cream bar and had her sit there while she ate it. She was so into the ice cream that she relaxed and pee came out. And then I did the potty dance. It only took that one time and after that she knew exactly what the potty was for and we didn't need to sit there endlessly waiting for pee.
Good luck!

@Purpledaisy: we went naked for a couple days, then commando, then underwear. And I literally was on her like white on rice and kept the potty chair a couple feet away at all times. I turned the tv on and we played at the table. She figured it out really quickly once she felt pee dripping down her leg like that! She gets fidgety and grabby when she has to go. And would say "uh oh!" like she knew it was bad

@blackbird: That's a good point. How did you catch her? Did you have her in regular underwear? She doesn't tell us when she has to pee but does for poo. She told DH last night that she had to #2 but went before he could put her on the potty.

@Purpledaisy: but I'm saying she may not be able to equate the feeling of HER having to go with sitting on the toilet. Otherwise she just sits on it, and if she does go, it's passive. We had good luck catching E when she would pee and sticking her on it to finish. And it's taken her a few weeks to now be able to tell us she has to go before she actually goes. The big vs little potty thing really seemed to help E out a lot! In fact, I think that may be when she started wanting the big potty. I can't remember

@Foodnerd81: I don't have a stool yet, I keep meaning to pick one up... Maybe that will help... It does seem like everyone ends up with a little potty seat :bummed:

@blackbird: I like the having two options but not having a "no potty" option. She really likes having a choice so maybe that will make her feel more like she's in control.

I'm pretty sure that she does understand what the toilet is for and that pee and poo go in there.

Maybe a new potty book that she only gets to look at while on the potty?

New books? We also started with the little potty chair and within a few days she wanted the big potty, so we have a stool next to the toilet for her feet. I think it helped to give her a choice: big potty or small potty. No option for "no potty". I also only let E wipe/flush/wash her hands if she produces. The little potty chair is awesome for traveling to other houses or when you lock your kid in their room to sleep. It's always there as an option. The toilet is never inaccessible.

i read the Oh Crap potty training book and it's been two weeks now-E hasn't had a pee accident in almost a week now! We only use diapers for bedtime now. The method has worked really well for us. Maybe your LO just doesn't understand why you are sitting her on it

Does she have a stool to put her feet on so her legs aren't dangling?

I don't really know. I too am hoping to just use a potty seat and not have to get a little potty chair, but it seems like almost everyone ends up with them.

DD is almost 2.5. She has had a potty seat for awhile now that goes on the regular toilet and has sat on it once or twice (never actually went potty). Yesterday I took her to get some big girl undies (with Minnie. Her favorite) and started trying to practice sitting on the potty. Well she HATES it and cries every time! After she happily flushes and she gets a treat for trying (one chocolate chip) which she happily takes. She even hates the underwear! I had her try them on and she wouldn't stop bawling until they were off!

How can I get her used to sitting on the toilet? I really don't want to do a little potty seat but should I bite the bullet and try that instead? Or should I just hold off and revisit potty training later? I have no idea what to do. I don't want to traumatize her.

Ps after she sits on the potty we give her lots of praise and hugs and we make a big deal of telling her how proud we are of her.
