I would keep feeding, it definitely sounds like a growth spurt! Like other said, spit up is one thing and vomit is another.

I EBF so a bit different, but at 6 weeks he was BONDED to my boobs. He had started sleeping longer stretches by then (5 or 6 hours) but that week he was up every 2 hours, and eating pretty much constantly during the day. There was a lot of frustration with my boobs not filling up fast enough for him. I'd say keep feeding if its making him happy!

Keep feeding - spit up is ok. You'll know when it's too much. It's a lot of milk coming back up! Both my boys also would push the nipple away with their tongue when they were full. My pediatrician said every child processes food differently so amounts can totally vary.

@Mae: naw he takes it for a moment then spits it out - I guess when he realizes there isn't milk in it :)

does he take a pacifier? is it possible he just wants to suck but isn't hungry?

@runnerd: what @loveisstrange: said! When DD overate it was like projectile vomit, and we both would be covered. I think a little extra spit up is ok. I know it is hard to figure it all out!

@Mae: @loveisstrange: I'll keep bringing on the food, but definitely am confused on whether the amounts he is spitting up would count as over feeding - it's not projectile, but seems like a huge amount of what he has eaten a couple of times! Like, maybe he is hungry, but his stomach isn't used to that amount yet?

@runnerd: If he was over-eating, it wouldn't be a little spit up.... He would be projectile vomiting all over you. It happened to us A LOT until we figured out issues with bottles and nipple flow. 6 weeks is one of the first huge growth spurts. He's probably legit hungry.

feed the baby! I was worried the first week I supplemented LO bc it felt like she ate too much, but my LC had a great point-- if I was EBF I'd have no idea how much she ate. I'd just feed her as often as she wanted and trust her.

@pinkb: he really spits up very little normally, but has spit up several times the past 24 hours fairly big too, so I hate to keep giving him more, but he acts desparate for it every time you offer the bottle :/ the whole diaper, comfort, swaddle, paci just isn't working. so confusing!

I would give him what he wants as long as it doesn't result in him spitting a bunch up (in which case I would think he is over full). DD did this from time to time and we just did trial and error. Sometimes she really wanted it and needed it and other times she over ate causing a lot of spit up. But during growth spurts she definitely upped her intake.

I'm going crazy! LO is 6.5 weeks old and FF, and usually eats 22-25oz a day.

He has never eaten more than 4oz at a time since before yesterday and suddenly he is unconsolably hungry!! So so fussy, won't sleep or nap hardly at all, and the only thing that calms him is more food! He has already eaten 26oz today, and easily has 2-3 more feedings.

Is this what a growth spurt looks like?!! Do I keep feeding him or try to cut him off (which results in screaming and misery)

Help!
