We got a couple mixed sets of generic track on amazon that have worked out really well - it lets us make lots of different track routes.

Thanks for the input. I found a Cranky on sale and was able to use a gift card that I’ve had for a looong time.

Bridges, cranes, turntables, etc. LO also loves having lots of track. The last 3 times we went to ikea he has insisted on more track! We have a mix of Thomas and Ikea pieces and plenty of wooden Thomas trains thanks to grandparents. And he got the Cranky crane as a gift when baby brother was born. He’s one of his favorites but $$!

Bridges are very popular here! And the turntable and crossing. We got the starter set from toys r us years ago (whatever was cheap) and have added pieces mostly from ikea with some brio from the grandparents. Oh and at some point I bought a train table from Walmart that came with a set of tracks. They don’t all fit perfectly but it works well enough. So annoying that the die cast metal Thomas trains generally don’t fit on the wooden tracks - only the wooden ones do i think (not sure). So the wooden trains get more play even though we have several types.

We bought the brio railway starter set and it has been a hit. We added the beginner extension kit also. And then supplemented with pre-owned stuff after that. A word of warning: some of the kits from brio have lifts and cranks and moving parts that are VERY frustrating for little hands. I’d stick with the basics depending on the age and dexterity of your LO

So the only ones that have seen a lot of extra play has been the crane one. Thankfully that's the only one we've bought new out of the thomas the train line; the rest came in a bundle from a friend's son that no longer played with it. Like he plays with the thomas add ons, but his favorites are the thomas crane and the Melissa & Doug animal train set

DS is 3.5 and obsessed with trains. We have second hand wooden tracks and some random Thomas Trains. He’d like some more pieces for Christmas. I’m confused by all the types of Thomas Trains and with the prices what they are I don’t want to pick duds or ones that don’t fit with the wooden tracks.

Where do you shop for them? What add-on pieces are favorites?
