@Mrs. High Heels: I'll be in a similar situation as you! I'll be in our office with dual monitors and my laptop docking station while my mom comes over to watch DD.

I'm still on maternity leave, but I plan on seeing her during the day to nurse.

@regberadaisy: It has really been a good balance so far, but its only been 3 weeks. I still get to see my baby during the day and if I have a break in work where I would normally chat with co-workers or surf the internet, I can play with the baby and the nanny for a few minutes. Its also nice to spend the morning playing with him instead of getting dressed and ready for work and being able to shut down right at 5:00 and not deal with a commute.
I have found that on the days I go to the office, it feels good to get out and on the days I stay home, I don't miss being stuck at home all day.
But as I said, if the morning or afternoon nap is off for some reason, now you have a cranky baby on your hands until the nanny starts her day or daddy gets home. And I know I will need to change it as his naps start changing and he drops some.

I'm a proposal consultant for an HR Firm. I work from home on Thursdays and a couple of other days depending on mtg schedules, etc. And that's only because the HQ building is only 30 min away. Otherwise I'd be remote every day.

I work as a partner manager for a software company. LO is in daycare FT. I am on the phone too much to have her around during the day!

The other day DH was running late and LO was crying at the top of her lungs....the prick I was talking to on the phone was super condescending and and asked me "What the F is going on there, Mom" and what kind of company allows babies at work. I wanted to punch him over the phone!

I'm switching to work from home part time. I am a CPA and do tax accounting. I'm going to be working from home 2 times a week. We will still be dropping off the LO at daycare, but I will get to spend more time with LO since I won't be commuting (my commute right now is one hour each way)

@regberadaisy - it also gives me more time with her in the mornings and after work since i don't have to spend any time on a drive or commute home.

@regberadaisy: I made the switch initially because of travel time. I was commuting for about 2-2.5 hours total between home/work/daycare. Other reasons are that I prefer daycare over having a nanny. And also for peace and quiet to do my job. DD would always come looking for me if she was home all day.

Thanks! So question, if you have child care while you are working from home...do you "see" your LO at all during the day?

If LO is at childcare out of the home and you don't see them why are you working from home? Travel time?

If you have childcare at home do you interact with them during the day? Is it just a better situation than having them at outside daycare and you don't see them all day? At least you're there?

@BabyBruins: It never occurred to me to do it this way. But that could work. I'll still be paying for childcare but at least I'll see her during the day!

I work from home 2 days a week and go to the office 2 days a week and Fridays are sometimes at home and sometimes at the office. My nanny works a shorter day on the days I work from home, not showing up until he wakes up from his morning nap and leaving after he falls asleep in the afternoon. BUT if a nap is short or he won't sleep, you have a bit of situation on your hands.

I send my kid to daycare when I plan to work at home. Otherwise, I wouldn't get anything done.

Edit: I teach community college level now. So when I am not needed on campus I can be at home.
