Ugh, I hate when someone abuses a policy and ruins it for everyone. I don't get why everyone needs to be punished when it should just be one person reprimanded.

I had something similar happen when I got a new boss while pregnant. My response was "okay, I see you aren't happy with me making up the time and working from home. I'll be taking a half day off and will complete x urgent task tomorrow and push y non-urgent task to next week". My boss quickly realized that me making up time was way better than having me take a ton of leave. But I am a government employee sitting on months of sick time, strong performance reviews, and permanent status. It is much less risky for me to make that kind of offer than most.

Ugh, I hate that!!! I'd def see if you can talk to your boss privately about this so that there's a mutual agreement/trust between you.

My guess is that your boss isn't upset with you and is actually really unhappy with the slacker employee for putting him in this position. Maybe try to bring it up to open the lines of communication with him. "I sensed in your response that you were unhappy about my LO's doctors appointment. I will be sure to make up the time, as I always have for these types of things in the past, so I just wanted to check in with you". It gives him the opportunity to let you know that it's not really about you, and you the opportunity to state your case for continuing to have flexibility since YOU don't abuse it.

Aww I'm really sorry. The only thing I can say is to try to keep a very detailed log for a few months of your in time and out time including lunch breaks and such. At least that way if you do flex a lot of time but make it up, you have some documentation to "prove it". Also for medical requests I would go ahead and send to a supervisor in an email so you can document that this wasn't just time you didn't show up but that it was pre-arranged and approved.

So, I have a coworker who has been abusing our "leave as you need/make up your time" policy and management has taken notice (and reprimanded her) however now they are cracking down on us because of the abuse. We have DD2s 15 month check up on Wednesday and I have to leave work early for it. I explained i would be skipping my lunch break and coming in early, and got a snarky response from my boss (which never happens.)

I'm so mad that because of one situation it will be affecting the rest of us. This is more of a vent than anything, i just hate how my once cushy policy is not appearing to be staying that way.
