I have 2 LOs and work from home. My older one goes to daycare. The baby has a babysitter who comes here a few mornings per week. There is NO WAY that I can work with one or both at home, I don't have any calls at all, but I do need to concentrate. I actually had the baby all day because my sitter was sick and I had to type a lot one handed with baby on my lap. :bummed:

Thank you all. While my job involves some conference calls, I am usually just listening and have managed those fairly well when home with the kids due to illness. However it sounds like long term we're going to have to find some sort of childcare.

Congratulations! Sounds like an exciting, new change and I hope this new setup works out well for you!

We put both our children in daycare full-time. My MIL watched each of them at home until they were a year and a half. I'd just shut the door while I worked to not get distracted, but as soon as they became toddlers and more aware that I was there... they'd try to pound on the door to get to me - it made me feel so guilty that I couldn't play with them. Having that separation of sending them to daycare worked out better for us. It was less distracting and made it easier for me to compartmentalize and focus on work when I needed to work.

Like Looch, my work involves a lot of conference calls pretty much all day long. I would never be able to work and watch my kids at the same time.

I think a lot of it depends on the work you are doing...my work involves a lot of conference calls where I have to actively participate, it wouldn't be cool if you could hear my son and his activities in the background, so he'd have to be at full time care.

We have a workspace in our playroom, which adds to the issue. If we had an office with a door that we could close, it would be a lot easier.

Right now DH works Wed-Sun so he watches the girls on Mon-Tuesday and they are in daycare for the rest of the week. Some months we have FT daycare.

I think I could have kept LO 2 home with me the first year since she was a very chill kid. There is no way I could ever keep LO 1 with me during work hours.

My mom is DS' primary caretaker. I work from home 2-3 days a week minimum. She either comes over, or DH or I drop him off at her house. Sure there are slower, random days that I can log off early.

But there is no way that I would be able to do my job on a consistent basis and well having DS at home. Conference calls, workload, etc. & a loud, active toddler do not mix well.

So, my family will be moving to Richmond VA for DH's new job and I be continuing at my current company but working remote/from home. Our plan right now is to not put DS (22m) and DD (4yo) into daycare right off but have them at home with me. DD will likely go to preschool but we'll have to decide on private vs public, etc.

How do work from home moms do it? Do you have childcare? Do you work around the kids schedules? Curious how all of this will work.
