@2farmmoms: don't forget about working your nonprofit experience too - do you apply for grants \ have you ever done any grant writing? You could always get some hands on grant writing experience through your own nonprofit, and then look for grant writing gigs

If you have a science background and tutoring experience, I do think that there are WAH jobs that could work for you in the education sphere like Mrs. Lion does. I've seen several on FlexJobs which I agree is a great resource.

Of course, tutoring is not always work from home, but if you returned to tutoring you could set your own hours and schedule and you could do it out of your home if you wanted. I think virtual tutoring is also a thing. Look into teaching online courses as well.

My freelance work is in the marketing/writing space but I have found it's better to have established connections in that industry if you really want to get good, reliable work. I was able to tap into my network to find my current freelance job because I had worked in the marketing industry for several years. Starting from the beginning may be hard because it is a competitive market.

@GoGoSnoGirl: thank you! I figured there might be other threads out there so I appreciate your link! I signed up for rev.com and so far have earned $6 doing two transcriptions. I don't think I'm good enough at it to make any real money, but I'll keep trying for a few more and see if I get better.

Thanks to everyone else as well. I'm looking into all of these options while I'm waiting for my first unemployment check to come in. I've never been unemployed for more than a couple of weeks before, this is so weird. I'm really hoping we can do some real fundraising for our nonprofit so I can focus on that full time. It's a ton of work but really fun!

Sure :) The company is NextLesson. I think you can get the contact info on their website. Last time I checked they were still looking for new contract writers. :)

@Mrs. Lion: I'm also a former elementary school teacher turned sahm...would you mind sending me that info as well? I used to do curriculum writing, but it's always tough to know if the stuff you see online is legit. Sorry to thread jack too, I'm not sure how private messaging works!

I highly recommend the site Flexjobs for all sorts of opportunities, including writing/editing. You do have to pay though. Do you have experience in that field? I ask because anything that pays well is very competitive. You might be better off focusing on tutoring.

@2farmmoms: hey lady, I'm sorry you are unemployed right now with everything else you & your partner have been dealing with around TTC & looking into adoption. It can all be so stressful individually, let alone piled on top of each other. A couple months ago I posted looking for similar ideas here: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/ever-done-medical-billing-or-some-other-wah-type-job

I haven't yet signed up for some of the sites suggested in comments there (or others I'd come across), but do intend to do so soon, just to get something going for our now 1 income family. I'll be sure to share if I find any of these helpful/worth doing! Best of luck! :goodluck:

Well, I recently found myself unemployed. Unfortunate because, well, we need to pay the mortgage, but really the best thing in the long run. I made a choice years ago that quality of life was more important to me than making a ton of money, so I don't exactly have a career to go back to. I have a lot of experience doing different things. So...as we are going through the process of deciding to stop TTC and move ahead with the foster system and fostering to adopt, I am thinking ahead to what kind of job will work best for that. My partner and I are starting a nonprofit horseback riding club for kids, and eventually I think we will both be working for that full time. At first, though, I will probably need to bring in some money from another source.

I'd like to find a work from home job. I have a degree in biology and experience tutoring, so that would be one thing I'd be qualified for. I also think I could do editing, possibly content writing, and various administrative jobs. Does anyone have experience with this type of job? Where would I start looking for online opportunities?
