Had a chemical recently. I worked a small private medical practice with my previous pregnancy years ago and now I am employed by county government so there is enough coverage for when I will potentially be gone. Not wanting to put the horse before the cart but was definitely curious what others have done. It is personal so I don't think you need to announce at 12 weeks unless you wanted to. It can take time and effort to make arrangements for someone who will be taking leave, especially for a smaller employer.
