I would be scared of the loss of family time, too. I worked a schedule where I would often be off mid-week, and it was hard to see DH much at all, or my own family (this was before I had kids). Loved the job so it was OK then, but I don't think I could do it now.

@MerryC: they are pretty flexible thankfully. Alot of the kids in his room are on different schedules. I asked the director for a price and it's half of what I pay now per week for 2 days.

Another consideration I have is that in a few years my Mom will retire and I'm sure she would watch B for me and that would eliminate paying for daycare all together.

It looks like you would still have some decent family time with you not working until 3pm on Saturday and Sundays.

I would probably do it if your day care can accomodate the change.

I will be the person to vote for the weekend shift. If I had that option I'd go for it. You wouldn't be losing your whole weekend (looks like morning/early afternoons are free) and you can do a lot in that time as a family. Having thatto extra 1:1 time w/LO would be so nice. I would go for it.

Will your daycare still accept him on mon and fri only, and at what fraction of the rate? Some places are not super flexible on this, so just make sure you check!

Family time is so wonderful. But alone time between dads and LOs can be really special and bonding too.

Working weekends is something I hope I never ever have to do again. I wouldnt change my schedule for that. If you are concerned your LO isn't getting the attention they deserve at daycare, I'd find a new one :)

For me personally, this would not be good for my marriage. Baby's important, but I would be really unhappy never having time with all of us.

I think for me it would depend on how long the situation was going to last. Working weekends indefinitely would be a no go. If it was going to be for a few months to a year while the kiddos are little, I'd probably do it.

When I was a SAHM and we were running out of funds to be able to support that, we both took on part time jobs on the side to allow me to stay at home. One of mine was a Saturday retail job, and since we went to church on Sundays that really only left Sunday afternoons for family time. Even in days when I only worked a half day on Saturday, I really hated the reduction in family time. So it really depends on what you prefer. I prefer family time!

DH and I both currently work full time, M-F, with B in daycare 9.5 hours a day. It kills me some days to drop him off and I often worry about the amount of attention he gets while he's there. Unfortunately our finances do not allow for much else right now. A potential solution popped in my head yesterday but I'm internally torn about it. The plan is to switch schedules with a coworker putting me at 64 hours instead of 80, letting me keep benefits. B would only have to go to daycare 2 days/week. I'd be making a little less money but it's not that much overall. My schedule would be alternating as follows

Fri - 730a-4p Fri - 730a-4p
Sat - 3p-1130p Sat - 630p-3p
Sun - 3p-1130p Sun - 11a-730P
Mon - 730a-4p Mon - 730a-4p
Tues, Wed, Thurs - off

I need to decide if sacrificing our family time on weekends is worth being able to be home with him more. I briefly ran it by DH and without too much thought he was worried about having time to do house stuff and taking care of him all day without me. I have plenty of my own reservations but it does have it's positives. The biggest for me besides more time with B is it would certainly help with the possibility of having another child in the future. As things are now, I don't think we realistically could afford 2 LO's in daycare full time.

If you were in my spot - what would you pick? And if you work something similar already, any tips on how it works for your family would be greatly appreciated.
