I have a pretty forgiving workplace but I often need to problem solve/manage problems after work in the 6-8pm zone otherwise known as dinner and bedtime. Sometimes it's a mess...

Oh no!!

I'm usually able to just shift my schedule around when my los are home, but I have a skype interview for a job next month when my los will be off for vacation still and I already know they'll need to be OUT of the house during the call! I'm envisioning it being like that BBC interview with the kids running in if they aren't

@codeitall: I totally see how that happened! It's not like working from home is some scheme to do personal stuff on company time. Kids don't ask when it's a good time for them to get sick, and not everything can be postponed until they're better.

@snowjewelz: I've tried birthday presents, my makeup kit, necklaces, and this awful box of Legos I've hidden away because it's for much older kids and has a million pieces. Desperate times call for desperate measures

Haha, you guys always make me feel better :) If I hadn't already taken most of the previous week off as well, I would have skipped these two meetings, but they were both kickoff meetings for multi-quarter projects, so I didn't want to count on a summary from someone else. I'm very fortunate to have an understanding manager and unlimited PTO!

I love video conferencing and the remote options it gives us, but man, what a golden opportunity for embarrassment

Wow that sounds so stressful!! Like @mrslemonlime I also use a vacation day if I don't have child care. My rule is that if I couldn't lead an important conference call on command then I use PTO. It can be a gray area but generally I don't think it's fair to my company that I get paid while I'm doing personal things and therefore unable to be productive. Plus my kids are little and need 100% of my attention still. Believe it or not it was a cleaning lady who disrupted my WFH attempt once!! For some reason vacuum machines confused her and she kept knocking on my door asking questions while I was on an important call 😆

Wow, these stories sound so familiar. I definitely had an important call with a client while walking my 3 month old DS to sleep around the block. I also had a tech support customer call while DS was crying and pounding on the door. I also changed a few poopy diapers while on the phone with my boss, which really grossed him out.

You took a shower while on the call. Wow. I'm impressed.

So many fails here. One time I was on a call with a big client with DS crying loudly in the background. The phone was on mute, but I guess the mute didn't work, because my boss was frantically emailing that everyone can hear me. I only saw his emails 10 minutes in. Luckily it wasn't a big deal, still working with this client.

Same thing happened on a call with a vendor, at which point it turned out the vendor was also working from home with a sick kid, and we both laughed about it.

And DD came thisclose to sending the boss at DH's dream second job a video of herself singing and dancing, with just one word in the text. Geezer. I don't even know how she typed that up, but am I ever glad I caught her before she hit "send".

Ha; no stories as good as yours as I only work from home while LO is there 2-3 times a year (snow days; like yesterday) but my cat LOVES to make appearances via video calls. She loves to rub all over my laptop and be all over me and the field of vision.....pretty much only when I'm on video. :meh: otherwise she ignores me.

Yesterday I worked from home and LO was home from school due to snow and ice. We had lunch at 10:45 because we both had already melted down. Then I gave her two lego sets to do that were supposed to be for Christmas. So now I have to replace those, but at least I got 1.5 hours of quiet work time!

 that is some funny work from home tales you got there! When LO is sick I take the day off. My manager is always telling me I don’t have to if it’s my admin day where I would work from home anyway. However, it’s not fair to my job or kid if I am half paying attention to either one.

My toddler had the stomach bug yesterday, so I stayed home with him today since he couldn't go to daycare.

I'm on a call with an important vendor, my manager, and my VP. since it is early morning, I sooo fortunately choose no video and mute myself. We get to the section that is related to my job, my boss jumps in and drives ... because my darling toddler came to give me a hug AND THREW UP ALL OVER.

Yeah, quickest shower I've ever taken and I spent the rest of the call doing carpet cleanup while listening.

I have another call with my immediate team later. DS is tired, so I've cuddled up with him on the couch in the vain hope he'll fall asleep before the call. Nope.

He spends the call mostly quiet, but he does grab my boob, call my brother on my phone, send a bazillion cartoon pics to everyone on Google Hangouts, and then adorably fall asleep.
Now I have Netflix playing in the background while he's doing this. Not just normal Netflix, this is Netflix that my child has somehow enabled the 'for the blind' narration track. So there is literally always someone talking describing what's on the screen. And I have no idea where the remote is. Apparently it was loud enough that the whole team could hear it and no said anything till the end :silly:

Anyone else got great stories to share?
