I do work out on a regular basis, but only twice a week right now. DH completely gets LO ready on his own these days - feeds her, bathes her, dresses her, drops off, etc. I'd like to do more days, but I don't want to push my luck. We both get up at 5:15 every morning - gym or no gym. When I'm home I shower and get ready first and then take care of LO. When he's alone he does it all and still makes it out of the house by 6:45 am. That being said, I do everything the night before. Pack his lunch, her bag, put out her clothes, etc so all he has to do is go through the motions. He's so helpful and it's great. Getting back into a workout routine has been just great. I'm hoping as she gets older and maybe a little easier I can add another day or two.

@Amelieisme: I agree. The only issue will be that he also likes to work out in the morning, so we may have to split it, like i do 3 days, he does 2 or something.

@ValentineMommy: Yeah, I am pretty lucky with my schedule right now. I do work full-time, but its nice to work 9-5 or 6 pm rather than earlier so I can get my morning routine in. I can't imagine I would do it if I planned to do so in the evenings...just too tired!

@JoJoGirl: Definitely have DH do the daycare drop off is he is the one working later. My husband and I had a bit of a tiff of who had to do the drop off, since we are essentially going to work at the same time, but I told him if I am nursing baby twice before work he gets to do the drop off. I do so much more in the morning than he does. Plus, it takes him like 15 min to get ready.

@winniebee: Yes, DH is around to watch baby. I guess your only option is to do a video if you can put him in a seat to watch or if he will go back to sleep. Mine will usually do this, but like I said, he's pretty easy-going in general.

@winniebee, that's what I figure my husband is for, lol! Pick up those extra 3-4 hours of slack time.

@T-mom, there's a really great article on Nerd Fitness about how lack of time is never an acceptable answer, it just means it's not a priority. It really makes you think about all the extra stuff that you *could* give up (Tv, internet), if you valued exercise more. It's a good perspective that makes you think about all the wasted time!

There's a mom with a 3 month old, who works a full time job, who manages to make it to CF pretty regularly, so it's really nice to see. In fact, most of the people at my CF gym have kids. So i know it can be done :)

@bree72: I'm sad because I like working out but until my LO starts sleeping later than 5, I really have to go to bed at 9:30. He usually wakes once, so I'm only getting 7 hours as is. Ugh.

@blackbird: I think you're right, I think almost anyone can make exercise happen if you make it a priority. E.g. I said I haven't been working out lately, but if I take all the time I have been spending on HB lately, I could have used that time every day for a work out! Maybe I should do that sometime :-)

I have to leave the house at 6 am to get LO to daycare by 6:30 am. So, I wake up normally at 5 am. For moms who workout in morning, what time do you drop off LO at daycare? I'd like to workout in morning but don't see how I'd have time.

Honestly, since his bedtime has gotten earlier (7pm), I haven't figured out how to fit it in regularly yet. I've been doing Sat and Sun morning runs, just to do something, but it is really difficult to find time during the week. I literally get home from work, start dinner, feed my LO while I'm cooking. Then eat dinner, shower with my LO, and then get him ready for bed/into bed. Then its dishes/laundry/cleaning time and then I get into bed exhausted at 9:3pm. I wish my husband would help more, but when the weather is mild like it is now, he works longer days and it's also hunting season, which means he's never home on the weekends. I'm trying to figure out a schedule so that after the first of the year, I can really buckle down.

I work out in the mornings, 4 days a week. It's the only time there's time! I get up before DH and DD and go to bootcamp or go jogging. When I was still breastfeeding, I would get up around 4am to pump before working out (because the bootcamp started at 5:30 and was a 30 min drive).

@Amelieisme: Awesome!!! I too have a super early work schedule (I start at 7:30am) so this exact plan probably wouldn't work for me, but I'm hoping since DH doesn't have to be at work til 9:30am he can do daycare dropoff and leave me some time in the morning to go to the gym before work (like I do now). I already get up at 5am to workout before work so hopefully adding a nursing session won't be too bad. Now I just have to get DH to agree to this master plan ;)

To make some of you moms-to-be feel a little better, I do work out! I have a 3 month old and this is my routine. I think it helps because I have a really easy-going baby who sleeps through the night since he was 8 weeks old so he easily conformed to my schedule. If he didn't sleep well, that would mean I didn't and finding a chance to work out would be sooo much harder. I get up before work to run or do an exercise video at home 2-3 morning per week. I get up early on Saturday and meet my running group and go run after nursing little one while DH stays in bed. Baby usually goes back to sleep after nursing so its easy on DH as well. My weekday routine:

Set alarm 545 am.
Nurse baby.
Go on a run (3-4 miles) or 40 m video
Hop in shower and get myself ready
Get baby dressed (or sometimes DH does this)
Nurse baby once more before DH takes him to daycare.
Usually have to be at work at 9 am, but it varies...sometimes earlier

I've always been one to exercise also so that makes it easier as well. I like doing it before work so I can spend my evenings with the baby and DH. If I started my work days earlier, not so sure I'd be able to do it. Also, I have like a 10 minute commute and DH is around to help out as he usually doesn't start work until later as well. I can see how a lot of you just can't fit it in your schedules!

This thread is so disheartening ;( I'm hoping to get to the gym about 3-4 days a week. I might have to switch to going in the morning, though. I think it's definitely something that has to be prioritized and scheduled, just like a work thing :P

I don't have time. I'm up at 4:30, feed E, get ready for work, leave by 6. I have a 1.5 hr commute each way and don't get home from work until almost 6pm. Then it's an hour with E and get him in bed. Pump, wash bottles and pump parts, eat dinner (I never cook anymore, DH always covers that since I put E to bed, I miss cooking though) Maybe sit for a half hour watching some TV and go to bed. E still wakes up in the night so I'm lucky if I get 6 hours of interrupted sleep. I don't know when I could add it in. I guess weekends, but I don't know that only working out twice a week would produce any real results and frankly I'm beat from the work week.

I was able to work out after DD turned 2 by going to the gym in the evening at least 3x a week or running in my neighborhood while DH had baby duty. However, after getting into great shape, I got pregnant :-T . DS is 1+ year now and I have been back to the gym once. Now that the weather has cooled down, I might get a bike trailer and bike the kids around,.

I try to squeeze in at least 3-4 days of working out a week. It's always in the mornings before work and before everyone is up. It's the only way for me. The only other time I have available is at night after she goes down, but too many things come up at night and it also interferes with my night sleep. I'd rather sleep early and wake up early.

@winniebee: Could your DH do the bath/bedtime routine so you could do a DVD or go for a run, even if just for a half hour?

@winniebee: I know you have an early riser in your house...me too. Since the time changed and the sun rises earlier, we have been taking morning walks. I don't know if that is feasible in Boston (I'm in CA), but that is how I am fitting some exercise in. Other things I try, but its hard to motivate, is to pick one afternoon on the weekend at the gym, usually Sunday when baby naps and Daddy just wants to watch football and there is a gym class at 8:00pm Tues/Thurs and I think about going to one of them (haven't actually been in a few weeks).
Its tough. I am hoping when I wean his before bed nursing, I can be more consistent about going to the gym one or two nights a week while Dad puts him to bed.
