It doesn't sound like you have to worry too much. If you can get your baby down around 7 pm, then that should be fine. But you never know what type of sleeper your baby will be. Not all kids want to sleep that early anyway so I think you just have to wait and see. I don't think you have to worry that you're getting home too late, though.

I work 8-5 and I get home between 5.30 and 6pm, her bedtime is usually around 10pm although she naps a lot before then. If I try to get her to sleep any earlier she will wake up every hour. I thinke every baby is different so there isnt one fixed bed time that works for everyone

@sloaneandpuffy: True. I'm just forever looking into the future and worried about what will happen if the bedtime we're able to give him still isn't early enough, and he starts exhibiting problems because of being overtired :(

My hours are 8:30-5:00 and my husband's are 10:00-4:00.

Our day goes like this. We wake up at 6:30 (really more like 6:40) and usually my husband does everything like get her bottles for daycare ready, clean up quickly around the house, fix our lunches etc. I shower and get ready for work then I use to nurse/pump before we leave. But because she's been waking around 5/600 she nurses then and sleeps for a little more so at 7am she's not hungry. Which is kinda said because I can usually get another 1-2oz out of that morning session which I lose now. We're usually out the door by 7:40. My husband drops me off at the train station then he goes drop M off at daycare.
He usually picks her up around 400pm then depending on what time it is they might go run a few errands or go home before coming to pick me up. We're usually home by 5:20ish. When we first started daycare she would nurse and take a 20minute catnap around 5:30pm. And we were taking a bath around 6:30pm. Nursing to bed by 700pm and she's in her crib by 800pm. Yeah, it takes her forever. But a few weeks in she dropped that 530 nursing and cat nap. And now she needs to be in bathtime by 600pm and she's in her crib by 700/715ish.
Now with the sleep regression that is allll out the window. Bath time still at 600pm but sometimes she's in her crib by 715 sometimes it takes longer and not till 800pm.

I am actually wondering if I need to move up her bed time. Which will really suck because as of now whne we get home I'm rushing around changing, putting her bottles away etc, getting her jammies and stuff together. So in reality we get like maybe 15-20minutes together. If I have to move it up I would lose even that!

But it really makes me cherish the weekends and not mind the 50 million night time wakings. As much. :P

She is 4months / 17 weeks now and I hope in time she will naturally move her bedtime later. Especially when she starts eating more solids so we can have family dinner time.

Your baby will let you know what schedule she wants!

@babynumber1: that is such an awesome stretch! I miss the days where M gave me 6-7 hour stretches. It's been weeks.

I think YOU need to set the bedtime. Babies are flexible. Ours goes to bed at 8:00 p.m. and has been since he was 6 months old. Before that it was later! Not all kids are built to go to bed at 6:30 and definitely not all kids sleep 12 hours so see what works for you.

Oops, forgot to add that LO is 14 weeks. She sleeps from 8p to 4-5am, gets fed, then back to sleep until time to start the day

I work 8:30-4:30 with a 30 min commute. In the mornings, we all get up at 6:45. I feed LO a bottle and get out her clothes. My husband does every thing else. I get dressed and ready for work while he entertains LO. I play with her for a couple of min while he gets ready. I leave the house at 8, and DH leaves at 8:15 to take LO to daycare.

I pick LO up from daycare at 5, and its just us until 6:30. We make dinner and she takes a short nap. We eat dinner when DH gets home, then at 7:45ish we give LO a bath, bottle and she is in bed around 8.

It may vary a little, but pretty much this is every night of the week in our house :)

The first year in particular I struggled the most with not getting to spend as much time with my son because our routine was me up at 5am to get ready for work, my son up at 5:45am to nurse and dress and out the door to daycare at 6:20am. Daycare from 6:45am to 5pm, home by 5:45pm, nurse to sleep by 6:30pm. I know many working moms that have the same feelings and concerns because they don't spend much time with their baby awake so you feel like you are missing out on so much. In some of the sleep books I read, it made sense when they stated the working moms in particular can make night sleep worse rather than better because they get caught up in wanting to spend time with their baby since they don't get to see him/her during the day. As my son got older and dropped naps and such I didn't feel as guilty but in the first year it definitely was a hard thing to reconcile in my heart and mind. I

I currently work 9-6 p.m. but I am going to try to talk to my boss about working 8-5 p.m. instead when I come back from leave. LO will be in a daycare facility somewhere near work and there is a roughly 30 minute commute home so between picking him up and everything it will probably be around 6 p.m. by the time we get home. I keep hearing about the sleep schedule and how babies need an earlier bedtime. I haven't yet read any of the books like "Healthy Sleep Habits..." but it sounds like that's a big recommendation. I worry about how LO's sleep will impact him because of my work schedule -- between nursing, bathtime, etc. it would be 7 or maybe even later, and then we would barely have time to play or interact with him after not having seen him all day.

For WOHMs, how does this work for you?
