I am pretty type A, too. :-) I figure that the first 1-2 years will be tough but then it should be better. DH isn't usually around much during the week but I hope that he can come home early once in a while during the first year, as you said. The kids are in day care. I have found it difficult, at least the first year having two. I have had many anxiety ridden evenings where I am trying to rush from work, pick up the kids, get dinner on the table, give baths, bedtime, pack lunches, make baby food etc, and then pump on top of that! One time, I was pumping WHILE cooking dinner (it's called the backpack pump n style!) and holding the baby on my hip. In case you are wondering where DH is in all of this, he has a long commute so that leaves me with the lionshare of the work. Now that we are over the 1 yr hump, things have significantly improved. It also helps that my 4 yr old is now more independent. I think it also depends on your disposition. With me being a high-stress type A person, I'm not so good with "rolling with it" which is kind of what you need to do. It is helpful if your partner is more available and hands-on to get through the first year. I hope I didn't make it sound too bad. When I was in the thick of it, time was passing by so slowly.
