I never got that high before because I hated working out and saw it as a chore. Now (post-baby) when I work out I see it as a break from concentrating 100% on my kids and I'm always really proud of myself because I managed to find time to work out. A combo of those things gives me the workout high. Or maybe that is sleep deprivation-induced hysteria....

I feel great after lifting and I feel totally drained after cardio! I think for me though the music I am listening to during my workout helps the most. That's what really fuels me and pumps me up! :)

@Peasinapod: I box and love it! Just don't get that great high/increased energy that other people talk about. Maybe I need to switch to cardio...

I don't feel that way but my husband does! He says he doesn't feel any different working out than not And he tends to quit fairly often. I always feel a release of endorphins and a burst of energy immediately following a workout. Plus I feel proud of myself. Wish I could help you!

I do an hour long workout that has treadmill/rower for 30 mins and weights for 30 mins.

When I walk out of the gym I feel awesome!!!!

I think it's dependent on the person. I get that "high" from heavy lifting while I see most people are saying cardio. It's definitely a personal thing.

I hate working out. I always have to force myself to do it. The only form of exercise I enjoy is yoga and sometimes hiking.

Totally agree about highs after cardio, which is why I do mostly cardio. I have to enjoy my work outs to keep motivated.

I have never ever felt that high. I feel great that I exercised but I feel like I have to drag myself to the gym and drag myself through the workout each time.

Ditto @Freckles: ! I only get that high from that type of single-minded cardio, but never from weights, circuit training, or plyometric type stuff like insanity or Jillian michaels.

I worked out a ton last year, and didn't really feel any of the usual positive benefits from the workout itself. I didn't get an endorphins hit... didn't get a post workout glow... in general, working out just made me feel a lot more tired. And hungrier too!

Sometimes I wonder if I'm working out wrong. I love the results, but the workout itself never feels that good - either during, or afterward! Anyone else ever workout and not feel any of the benefits that people are always talking about?
