@catgirl: This is what I did around 2 as well and now at 4 her preschool teacher was happily surprised at her knowledge of things like alphabet, numbers, etc. I hope I make the time to do this with my son too when the time comes.

I think it's important for my kid to be on the same track as the other kids, which means I don't really provide formal lessons at home. We sing our ABC's, count, practice writing her name and play tons of board games, but we're pretty laid back and see what's she's interested in doing. I have a friend that very actively pushes reading at a young age, which is totally fine. But it's just not for us.

DD is only 2 and I SAH. We work on letters, numbers, shapes, and colors every day. We have recently started working on days of the week and weather. It's mostly play based and led by DD.

My kid spends 30 hours a week in school, which is plenty. I provide her with any educational stuff she asks for or shows interest in, but that's it.

Not much. We occasionally work on things when he expresses and interest in something. He was super interested in letters and sounds for a while after he watched The Letter Factory last summer. So we would do some letter puzzles or games or just talk about them. Lately we have spent a couple minutes each night looking at sight words and reading sight word readers together. Also we often talk about numbers in the car. Counting things, counting backwards etc. I try to just incorporate learning into our regular life rather than make it a separate agenda item. If we are eating grapes, how many do you have? What happens if you eat 3? How many are there now? What do you think that sign says? What letters do you see? etc.

Nothing really. My son can do his homework on his own and doesn't need any additional help, so I instead focus on doing art projects with him.

With my oldest we do homework and outside of that they just ask us to read, read, read. With the youngest, we informally do letters and colors through play.

How much do you work with your LO at home with things? Do you base it off what they are learning at school, or do your own thing?

I actually haven't been doing very well with this. The teachers put in the weekly newsletter what they are working on and what they want us to help with at home but I'm terrible at making it happen.

I do, however, want to work with both girls this summer on things, alphabet for LO2 and reading for LO1, just lightly...nothing crazy.
