@Katrocap: I was worried too (our son started daycare at 3.5 months), because he'd only STAY asleep if we held him. At first, his naps were very short, but now (@ 8 months) he will sleep for an hour or more in his crib.

It'll take time, but your son & daycare provider will figure it out. And, bonus, now he sleeps for naps in his crib at home!

@Smurfette: the no swaddling is a state regulation in TN do no way around it : ( We ended up needing to transition her out shortly after she started anyway because she learned to roll.

@Smurfette: That's fantastic! We swaddle at home (arms out), but I'm sending sleep sacks to daycare.

@MamaMoose: I thought day care wouldn't swaddle either, so we stopped doing it for naps. They wrapped up in a blanket on Thursday and said that she did much better. I sent a Swaddleme blanket Friday and she actually took 4 30-45 min naps. That was the most she did all week. So I am going to send one every day!

@T.H.O.U.: @mamamoose: That's great to hear!

@andrea: I'll have to find something of mine to send with DS. We always leave worn T-shirts on the bed for our cat when we go away; now we'll be doing the same thing for DS!

@smurfette: Glad to hear things are getting a little better for your LO. I'll have to check if we can bring his bouncer. And you're right, he might be fine, DS surprises me all the time!

I can't tell you how many break downs I had worried that my LO wouldn't sleep at day care. We were still swaddling her at home and she wouldn't give it up. And day care isnt allowed to swaddle! But after a rough first week of adjustment my LO did great. She started taking good naps in the swing or bouncer at school and then slowly transitioned to her crib. One day last week she took a THREE hour nap in her crib at day care!! She's six months old. Your LO will get the hang of it, just know the first few days might be tough but it will get better.

Do they have a swing or bouncer that he can nap in? I've heard it can help to bring in something that has your scent to comfort him. He will adjust. Good luck!

Can you bring a bouncy chair and leave it there?

My LO started day care this week and at home will only nap if in our arms or nursing. She has fallen asleep in the swing there. She isn't much at all but Friday was much better then Monday. Will be an adjustment for sure. LO will be cranky at night, mine has been, cause she is so tired, but hang in there. He might surprise you!!

My DS is starting daycare this week and I'm worried about his naps there. He's 5 months and will only fall asleep for naps in the car, on me (nursing) or in his bouncy chair. His daycare provider doesn't have access to any of those things! There's only one other baby there (it's a family daycare), but I'm worried that he won't nap. I don't want him to be a problem for his new daycare mom!
