Aww hugs. I know the feeling of being worried about your LO during that early stage. My M was borderline jaundice as a newborn. My ped recommended sitting her by a sunny window with just a diaper for a few minute each day. But she was born in the spring so not quite as cold as it is now. Although you're in FL right so it's probably not that cold.

Maybe try that? Do you have a follow up appointment scheduled in case she needs to go back for more time under the light?

Honey, after 5 days of life, levels that high aren't as concerning. There is a nomogram that we follow and it stops applying after 5 days. I wouldn't stop breastfeeding. I'd feed through. If it's breastfeeding jaundice it will persist for a while but is pretty benign.

As always, follow your peds recommendations, but I think unless there's something that shows up indicating that this is a pathological jaundice, you guys should be fine :)

i can imagine how stressful it must be. you're doing everything right. both charlie and olive had jaundice and had to undergo phototherapy. olive had breastfeeding jaundice too, thought not as severe as yours. i know it's hard mama but you're monitoring her, and levels don't get dangerous until they're much, much higher. try to stay strong, expose her to a little bit of sun every day, and feed as much as possible.

we'll be sending positive thoughts your way!

I don't have any experience with jaundice but hoping your sweet girl's levels go down soon and you can start really enjoying this stage. We're having tests for hip dysplasia in our little girl and it broke my heart that she might have to spend a few months in a brace and made me cry a lot the first few weeks of her life but now I've managed to calm down about it a bit and just enjoy how amazing she is. Hope you get to do that soon too.

So I mentioned on your other post about my experience with LOs jaundice. A few days after she was discharged with a level of 13.1, her levels went back to 15.6. Our ped said it was OK. And 3 weeks later her level was 11.8 which was still higher than when we were discharged from the hospital after I delivered. They say it can take 3 months for the level to go down to a normal level. Our LO still looks a little yellow and the whites of her eyes were yellow up until maybe 5 weeks. Anyway...my point is that it leaves the system slowly...just keep monitoring her levels. As long as they are going down, I think its OK. Hang In therr mama!

I'm so sorry :( DS had a large hematoma from his vacuum birth and as his body reabsorbed the blood, his bilirubin went bonkers. We were both held at the hospital for almost a week. They didn't say it then, but I think breastfeeding had something to do with his levels too.
It took a bit longer but he was fine and I'm sure H will be too - you're doing everything you can and listening to your doctors. I know it's easier said, but try not to stress. xo

After being admitted last weekend with a Bilirubin level of 21, Harper was discharged with a level of 12.6 after 2.5 days of phototherapy. Since then, we've monitored her levels and they've continued to go up again. Her Ped thinks it's a very stubborn case of "Breastfeeding jaundice" which is when something in the breastmilk prevents the breakdown of bilirubin, and causes the baby to be more jaundiced. So I have been giving her formula since Thurs night and pumping/freezing in hopes that a few days of formula will cleanse her system and then we can go back to BFing. Today we checked her levels and they BARELY went down- from 16.8 on Thurs to 16.1 today after all of this formula feeding.

I am so scared that there is a bigger problem and I am really so stressed that I am losing it. It's totally consuming me and I don't think I'm able to fully enjoy her sweet newborn stage bc I'm literally thinking about this stupid jaundice/fearing her next test will show that her levels have gone up.

She is so perfect and sweet and amazing and it is just breaking my heart that she's going through this:(

Just a worried vent here. I cry every day but I guess that's not enough...
