@winniebee: Yeah, apparently I had a little lip that just wouldn't go away. And DD was OP so I spent some time on my hands and knees trying to get her to flip over - which fortunately worked. In a way, I was grateful we had longer because after getting the epi, I was able to rest for a bit before pushing!

My water broke and I was 8cm dialated by the time I got to the hospital, and I STILL had about 9 hours before DD was born! I think you'll be ok but they're prepared either way.

@Goldilocks1107: I don't like the being on my own part! Last night there was a stretch where I had mild contractions every 6-8 minutes....for maybe 45 minutes? But I just didn't feel like it was go time, so waited it out. Silly, but I just want to avoid false alarm hospital visits....

@winniebee: I'm with you! I tested positive too, and my OB said "if your water breaks, come in because we have to get you started on the IV", but if it doesn't break, I'm on my own to figure out when it's time to go!

I began labor at 350 am on a Saturday. Went to the hospital at 330 pm. I was only dilated to 2 so I got a regular IV. Once I was admitted officially around 7 and they hooked up the antibiotic. My Contractions were between 3 and 7 minuets when I went in. I delivered at 409 am on Sunday. I got 3 doses.

You will be fine!

By the time I got to the hospital I was 4cm and 80% effaced at 4am and I think contractions were right around 5 mins apart if not less.
I was hooked up to the IV about 4:30am. I started pushing around 11am. I got two doses of the IV.

Thanks ladies! I guess I'm just concerned bc monitoring contractions is confusing - I mean I time them but they aren't too intense yet (every 10 mins or so). I hope when the time is right my water simply breaks!

I also tested positive for group B strep. My water broke and I was 3 cm 80% effaced when I got to the hospital and was checked the first time. I was started on antibiotics like an hour after arriving at the hospital I received 2 doses before delivering 10 hours later.

I'm kind of jealous, not of because you have group b strep but because when I went to the hospital early I was turned away. You won't be. I didn't have that, but I was at the hospital 9 hours before I delivered, and that's after being sent home first.

As a primip you should have plenty of time because labor takes longer.

I tested positive with DS. I was 3 cms before I went into labor, and had plenty of time to get the full dose before DS was born; I also got to the hospital when my contractions were only 2 minutes apart, and it still took 7 hours of labor before I delivered him. :)

I only got one dose, my delivery was too fast for more. It was totally fine, they just kept an eye on her for a day and let us know what to look for when we were discharged.

So I tested positive for Group B Step meaning I will need an IV with antibiotics for childbirth. No biggie. However my OB tells me that the IV needs to be going for 4 hrs prior to delivery to be effective. As such I'm supposed to call when my contractions are 7 mins apart (as opposed to the usual 5 min rule). Also I'm already 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced. I'm worried I won't go in soon enough for the antibiotic!

Anyone have experience with GBS? How quickly did your labor progress?

Thx!
