@jedeve: When LO first got super active, once he started crawling, he would totally ignore story time. But as he got older, he would come and sit with us for part of the story and then go run around. We know he's ready for bed when he actually snuggles for an entire story.

Baby activity doesn't correlate with ADHD :). My little one was the most active baby you could ever imagine and now at 20 months she will sit in my lap for a book (sometimes two) or snuggle me for a few minutes. With her being so busy, we did completely keep her away from TV (she would totally be sucked in) to make sure she had optimal executive functioning development... But I assure you that they do get so much better!

Calling it a 'boy thing' needlessly promotes false gender stereotypes. Some children are just far more active than others, boy or girl. My daughter is the strongest and busiest toddler I've ever met, boy or girl. Nothing to do with gender.

My 13 month old is the same way, she doesn't cuddle, always on the go, & has always been active. I think it's just her personality! I wouldn't worry about it! Some kids are more explorers, and I think ours fall into that. I used to worry she doesn't like to read a book with me, but I figured with time it will come. I will continue to read them to her even if she gets up and walks away.

I always knew my first LO was super active, now that I have two it's crazy the difference. My older LO was so much more active right away. There's just personality differences and while there's challenges with active babies there's lots of benefits. Physically my older LO is way ahead of the curve and has hit all her physical milestones pretty early because she challenges herself all the time. I have to make sure she has a good amount of physical energy expenditure before her naps and bedtime or she doesn't sleep well.

My daughter is like this. Everywhere we go people tell us how busy she is. But I don't worry about it. As much as you can tell from an 11 month old she seems very smart (it takes us all of about 30 minutes to teach her things like peek a boo and blowing kisses, and she's the only kid in her day care class who has figured out the sign language they are teaching them) so I like to think she's just busy because her super smart brain needs stimulation

My son is super active! Like 2x's as muh as other kids his age. He's nonstop from the moment he wakes up, til the moment he goes to bed. I just think that's his personality, and not ADHD.

I think ADHD is probably a stretch. It sounds like your LO is a pretty normal active child while your friends have pretty normal mellow children. My LO is is the active one among her peers. While it can be more difficult to figure out how to channel her energy, I know it's important to embrace that as part of her personality.

My son is 15 mos and we get comments all the time about how active he is. He is into everything and is a total daredevil-climbing on top of everything and jumping on furniture, etc. I am not too concerned about it though, as he does like to read with me and enjoys independent play and being outside. He's a much happier kid when he's busy playing so we make sure to do a lot of that everyday. He was very active while I was pregnant so I think it's just his personalilty.

My DD has her moments where she goes nuts. She can be extremely playful and a few months ago, I was concerned if it was normal. After reading about ADHD, I felt better - she's just playful. Now at 16 months, she's actually calmed down a few notches. She's still really playful, but it was a lot more extreme when she first started to be mobile.

I think boys are just reeeeeally active in general, especially when they figure out how to move around by themselves. I have two of them almost 3 years apart and, well, let's say my days are always eventful! My oldest was very cautious when he was an infant. Not so much now at 4. My youngest was always into everything since he started crawling. I have to watch both of them all the time; otherwise, something or someone will break. ;)

@jedeve: J is the same! At 10 months he was walking everywhere and hated being held. I remember going to a friends house and she laid out a blanket on the floor for him. Yeah there was no way he'd stay there, haha
He's almost two and is still really active. Never has been a sit and read (unless he's exhausted) kind of kid.

Our son is the same. Never ever stops moving. Climbs everywhere, can't sit through a story, creates a wake of destruction in his path. But I don't worry about ADHD at this point because I was a very similar child. I didn't have ADHD, but did have way more energy than should be legally allowed through about middle school.

My 19 month old is like that too. Super energetic, happy, not a cuddler, very independent like to explore, always busy, etc. Developmentally, she is totally normal. It's all just personality! Some kids are just more energetic than others.

I think it's too early as well. My 19 month old daughter has always been active, and was never one of those calm and cuddly babies i heard about. She's mellowed out a bit, but she is still a super busy body. At that age, they have really short attention spans, so i wouldn't worry about it too much right now.

My 15 month old is super active as well. It's a little shocking when he'll sit through a book. He'll come and sit on me for maybe 30 seconds at a time...if I'm lucky. The only time he cuddles is when he's really tired or sick.

We're not particularly worried about him, though, and neither is his pedi. I give him lots of independent play time and time outside to run around and be active.

You just described my son to the tee! Super happy, super active... has never been the cuddly type and always wants to crawl and explore. Even in the carseat, he's happy but kicking his feet nonstop.. he's just always moving.

I haven't worried too much about this, I guess because he is just like DH when he was a baby, and DH turned out fine. Though DH was a pretty wild toddler so I am bracing myself. I'm not used to this because DD was the complete opposite.

I think it's too young to tell if it's ADHD!

Woah, that's a real leap to adhd. My daughter is really active as well - she doesn't just hang around snuggling unless she's tired or sick. We make sure that she gets a lot of chances to run around and be active, in age appropriate ways. Lots of children are just very active - whether it's a problem or not is really just based on how you view it.

My LO is ten months old and has been non stop since he was born. Everyone comments on how active (and happy!) he is. I worry that he might have early signs of ADHD. Is that crazy? I look at other babies his age and they will do things like sit on their moms' laps without trying to dive out. Or cuddle. LO is getting better about some stuff. He will sit through books now before bed.

Did anyone else have super active babies who grew out of it? Or have any advice on how to mellow him a bit? Get him interested in doing something for more than 30seconds?
