@JoJoGirl: when baby is just a newborn the body produces an oversupply to compensate for the time taken to master breastfeeding and after six or so weeks supply starts to level out based on demand. Once babies hit around three months (I think) the volume of bm required doesn't change or increase greatly as the composition of the milk is constantly evolving to meet baby's nutritional needs.

If you're consistently adding in a pump session your body should up supply to meet the increased demand, you might just need to give it time :-)

Hang in there Mama, you're doing great!

@Kemma: Yes to happy baby with plenty of diapers.. and I nurse her every 2 hrs round the clock, except for one 5 hr stretch 8pm-1am or so every night. I add in a pump session (or yesterday, 2 sessions) every other day or so. I think I need more water. :( I thought baby needed MORE supply now, not less?

@septemberlove: Already on Fenugreek :(

I think it was around this time that I noticed I wasn't so engorged. I stopped pumping when LO got the hang of nursing, so I can't really speak to that. If you're worried, try some lactation cookies or fenugreek! :) it can't hurt to have a little boost if you're trying to build a stash anyway.

How's baby's output? Plenty of wet and dirty diapers? Is baby generally happy and content and sleeping ok? How many times are you nursing / pumping in 24 hours?

This age is about when I had a dip in supply and for me the problem was not eating and drinking enough to maintain good supply. Thankfully the combo of LO nursing more frequently and eating more food really helped me, I also made lactation cookies and drank lactation tea in the mid-afternoon.

With regards to pump output, your supply has probably regulated down to match what your baby needs, hence the drop in output.

@JoJoGirl: I know @Adira: just did one, you could ask her about it. That is the only way I can think of to know if it is supply. Or maybe she is just getting lazy and not eating much at a time.

LO will be 13 weeks old tomorrow. The longest stretch of sleep she's had/I've gone without nursing or pumping is around 5-6 hrs. The last few weeks, she's started nursing around every 2 hrs instead of 3-4 where we were for a while. I thought it was the 12 week growth spurt/WW.

I started pumping more often this week since I'm going back to work soon and my freezer stash is sad. I used to consistently pump 5-7oz in around 10-12 minutes! Hence the sad stash - I thought my supply was relatively dependable. The last few days, I've only pumped a total of 3oz at each session. I am not as hydrated as I should be (nor have I ever been while nursing), so am working on that, and already take Fenugreek and eat oatmeal every day. Now I'm concerned she's been eating every 2 hrs because my supply is dropping, not because of a growth spurt.

Thoughts?
