It had been there for 20 years but couldn't afford to renew when the landlord jacked up the rate. And they tried to find a new space, but there was nothing both suitable and affordable in the area. They're supposed to be reopening some distance away, but all the old staff has found jobs elsewhere so it won't be what it was... When I was looking for a daycare for my first son I visited a place, and a few months later they called to tell me they wouldn't be able to take my child (which was already weird because I'd decided against them, partially because while they should have had a toddler class they didn't have any kids in it) because they were shutting down at the end of the week. Like, going out of business, for good, closed?</p> <p>Our county is doing a promo/grant to get a couple new daycare centers started in the area (timely since I'm looking for a new one after the home daycare closed suddenly), but I know that one closest to my work actually went out of business two years ago and the facility stood vacant until they opened with someone new last month. They have room for a 100 but only have 10 kids enrolled so far. Am I right to be concerned or just overly sensitive? </p>
