Our pup hated lo when she came home. She had reflux so she cried a lot, and he would walk out of the room if she came into it. But as she got older, cried less, they could interact, etc he grew to love her. He loves licking her and she giggles like crazy when being licked.

We have 1 cat and were very worried because our cat is NOT friendly (like, she attacks people and bites and claws, etc. not, not, not friendly - except with my husband and I). Our cat is beyond amazing with the baby!!! She has never once been aggressive with the baby, even though LO is now mobile and has several times pulled her tail or grabbed her fur. They are good buddies now and interact well with each other.

I think as long as you give your pet attention and love still, most pets are happy to welcome in a new family/pack member. I don't know much about parrots but I know how devoted and bonded they are to their people (or person). We've made an effort to still make time to snuggle with kitty and give her treats and do the things she likes; so she's isn't just completely ignored, which I think breeds resentment and jealousy (which then cause issues).

I don't have a bird but I have two dogs and two cats. They adjusted really well. I didn't do any specific training. It took a while for them to get used to the baby sounds. They would come running to see what was going on every time he cried. We did make it a point to give the pets lots of attention still. Whoever wasnt dealing with DS would be petting or hanging out with the animals. I would also pet them while holding DS so they wouldn't get a negative association with him.

Hopefully that helps a little. I have never had a bird but maybe you could try something like that with her?

We are waiting to TTC for another month, which means plenty of time to obsessively research all things baby related.

How did your pets adjust to LO? I've read about training dogs to not jump up on you when you are pregnant, or training the cat to stay out of the room. But I haven't seen anyone post who has a bird. I have a parot and I imagine she will be so depressed when we have a baby. I have no idea how she will handle it.

For those of you with pets, how did they handle the competition for attention once LO came along? Sorry if this is on the wrong board!
