@blackbird: oh ok! That's what I thought too. I thought 3 months was too early for CIO.

@Trailmix: Just looked the Merlin suit up on Amazon, the reviews sound amazing! I wish it wasn't so expensive. Yikes. Maybe if she doesn't get better by night 4 or so, I can talk DH into it.

Uh, we didn't do CIO until she was 5 months and 3 weeks old. I think the first window is like 4.5 months for CIO? BUt we never rocked E even when she was really really little. I just can't speak to what I would have done at that age! We did the transition later than you did because she had reflux, so she had to sit inclined until almost 5 months, when her medicine kicked in

@abbydabbydoodlebug: duh I totally forgot!! What saved us was the Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit!! I wasn't thinking when I responded earlier. I had tried a few times before and given up after two nights because it was so bad (and resigned myself to the fact that they'd probably head off to college with the Rock n Plays in tow) and then I finally tried switching from the swaddle to the sleep suit and it totally worked wonders! Highly recommend!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: We are in the same boat! We've been trying to do the RnP transition to the crib since last Friday and OMG I am so tired. We went from STTN to 4-6 wakeups. I just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain. Lots of coffee for us today.

Like PP said, we started with naps. I wanted her to be in her crib by the time she was 4 months but it just wasn't happening. I kind of just let her decide when she was ready - if that makes sense. We moved her RnP to her room first and put it right next to her crib and she slept in that for a few weeks (pointing the monitor toward it, obviously). Just to help her get used to sleeping in her room, without us. Then we noticed she seemed like she was getting too long for her RnP and she wasn't as comfortable at night. Thats when we moved her into the crib. Between that and her napping in there during the day, she didn't have any problems.
I should mention, she started rolling over around this time and would always end up on her belly in the crib. I didn't like that she was sleeping that way, but I think that's just what she preferred.

No....we did some CIO and never rocked her, even when she was little. The first night, she cried for 20 min. It got better every time. She just kind of freaked out when she rolled over.

I do have an old post somewhere specifically about us sleep training if you wnat to dig in my posts started. I basically chronicled the week. the first 3 days were better, the 4th night we took a step backwards, then days 5-7 got better.

@blackbird: Did you do anything special with sleep training during this transition? I went and rocked her back to sleep when she woke up each time. Reinserting the paci wasn't good enough.

@ms.janedoe: Yeah, she's swaddled with the miracle blanket currently. We just bought it because she was breaking out of her halo swaddle. Although when I woke up at 645 this morning, I found her broken out of that and she had scooted all the way down to the bottom of the "U" in her crib.

@Trailmix: @blackbird: 4 days- a week?? Oh man, I thought it would only take 3 days. :( I'm regretting my decision to use the RnP for night time sleep! She sleeps so good in it though, 830-7 with one night feed and I usually have to give her the paci a couple times in the early morning to get her to sleep past 7.

omg the transition is really effing hard. It took us a week of sleep training to get her to sleep in her freaking crib. It just sucked. But it does get better; your LO can't stay in the RnP forever! But definitely give it a week

It will get better! It took mine maybe 4-5 days to make the transition and go back to sleeping the way they did in the RnPs (which wasn't great, they were waking up 2-3x a night anyways at that point). Just power through it if you can, and give it a few more nights!

Ugggh, so sorry, lady. We're at almost 6 months and still in the RnP/cosleeping at night. I plan on doing the transition at the same time I sleep train (hopefully) next week... Is she still swaddled? If not, a lot of people recommended the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit...

@lamariniere: trust me, that nap was an anomaly! She never naps longer than 45 min.

Maybe it's that she can't hear me sleeping. I'm going to try to give it 3 nights and see if there is any improvement.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: gah! 2hr40min crib nap! I'm jealous! DD sleeps only 30min at a time during the day. :silly: hmmm, I'm stumped then since she seems to like the crib well enough. Hopefully someone else will chime in with good advice.

@lamariniere: She's been taking all her naps in there pretty much. Her naps are terrible, but they weren't any better in the swing. She did take a 2 hour 40 min nap on Monday in her crib. I have no idea why night time is so hard. We tried putting her in her room a couple weeks ago in her RnP with similar results. I guess she hates her room at night. :(

Ugh, I'm sorry you are going through this!

Has she spent much time in her crib before? Maybe you could try letting her play in it for 10 min at a time or have her start by napping in it before transitioning to night sleep? Before transitioning my DD from the bassinet to the crib, I got her used to napping in the crib first. By the time we were ready for night time sleep in the crib around 10 weeks, there were no transition problems at all.

My LO is 12 weeks old (as of yesterday) and I finally decided to move her to her crib last night. I didn't want to wait to long because I thought it'd be harder... Well, I was WRONG. This was, by far, the worst night we've ever had. Even compared to newborn sleep. She nursed to sleep until 845, needed paci reinserted 2 times. Woke at 1130, rocked to sleep. Woke at 115 and gave her a bottle of BM (she normally takes it about 230), then she laid awake in her crib for 2 hours!! Had to put paci in a couple times before she fell sleep. Then she woke every hour until I found her broken out of her swaddle, crying, scooted at the way down at 645.

Please tell me it gets better.

I made a nest with a towel for her and I put a pillow under her mattress to angle it a little bit but it doesn't seem to help apparently!

I'm so exhausted today. And she doesn't take good naps so I'm stuck with her all day. That sounds horrible but it's how I feel. I envy dh who gets to go to work and escape baby sleep hell.
