I also have a 7 day waiting period for disability to kick in and then get 50% pay for 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for C-section. After that, its all my own leave. And while I'm on disability, I don't get service credits towards my pension. I do get some perks like getting to have my job held for me for up to a year, if I chose to go unpaid, but yeah, its all a trade off. If I had to do it over again, I would buy a private short term disability policy to supplement my income loss.</p> <p>My in-laws live in Michigan, who got an F, but my SIL works for a college who gave her 6 weeks of paid maternity leave that she can tack her own leave on top of.
