@regberadaisy: eh, still a lot.. The Vornado one we're looking at is like $140 and I have Amazon credit!

@Freckles: Sweeeet! Yeah, I think the Vornado ones aren't bad!

@regberadaisy: @snowjewelz: floor model for us during a store closing sale. At first I was against it bc of the price but DH really pushed for it (and he is a cheap ass)!

But the Vornado one recommended looks good!

@snowjewelz: we have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Vornado-Vortex-Automatic-Climate-Control/dp/B000GLHVZA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

i definitely recommend it! dd has been using hers for 3 years and its still going strong. it has the tip over protection, cool touch, shutoff features, etc. i would love the dyson bladeless heater if it wasn't $$$, esp since we'd need 2. haha someday maybe..

@gingerbebe: yeah, if it's just us, we just suck it up! but now that we have DD we want to make sure she is warm

@kodybear: yes the climate control ones are what we're looking to get!

@BandDmommy: @Happygal: I def agree that is always a certain risk to these things.. The one we want does have a lot of good safety features like auto shut off, tip over protection, cool touch, etc.

@Freckles: that thing is amazing! just can't swing it hehe.

@BandDmommy: we use the Dyson heat fan for the kids' rooms, which is bladeless and turns off as soon as it falls over (which can happen with kids). It turns on/off according to what the temp is set to.

Definitely space heater is cheaper. Just make sure to get one that shuts off automatically after reaching a certain temp and I think oscillating is a key feature worth paying for!

we have been using space heaters since dd was born so 3 years and i def like that vs heating the house. their rooms are small so if we turn the heat on in the house, their rooms heat up fast and too much. so we've been using space heaters with climate control so it just maintains a temp. i actually think it costs more for the space heater here but our electricity rates are high.

@BandDmommy: I was going to ask about the safety of them. I've been warned about the danger of space heaters over the years and have become paranoid b/c of it, but don't really know if true!

our old house was drafty and we had crappy on wall heaters that basically did nothing, so we got a space heater for DD's room and just wore sweaters and socks in the rest of the house... our house was freezing though! like 50/60s, so the space heater was a must.

My parents run a space heater if its super cold, but most of the time they just wear slippers in the house and use electric blankets for their bed. They figure if they are warm in bed, that's all that matters.

@snowjewelz: yes! We have an old house with original windows. Heating the house is pricey. We lower the house temp to 60 at night and keep the kids' rooms warmer at 68. We also bring the heater into the bathroom too!
