I did. They are close friends and just wanted to celebrate. The party was more for adults anyway.

Absolutely!
I almost didn't for the same reasons but I'm glad that I did, they were all happy to be invited. I think first birthdays are different, too, it's more about the parents celebrating.

i guess i am on the fence because these friends are not in LOs life on a regular basis. they are somewhat good friends of mine who have come to visit here and there. and that i used to hang out with more before i had a baby. maybe the question is how good friends am i with them really to invite them or not.

all my family and close friends for years live in a different city, so that's why only my mom is coming. If i in my home town, then true i would invite several non-parent friends without hesitation.

@californiadreams: Yup I invited my two BFFs and just noted that they should feel zero pressure to attend since it would otherwise be all family.

Yep. Usually first birthdays are compiled of family & friends of the parents moreso than other kids. :)

we did! we felt like if they were involved in lo's life they should be invited. but i also knew they wouldn't feel obligated to come and instead would want to, so that helped with the decision, too.

I have a small space for a party and i have a few friends that i am inviting along with their babies and DHs, plus my mom is coming. I also have about 2 - 3 other, non-parent friends that i am thinking about inviting, but not sure if i should. I can't imagine they would be offended if I didn't invite them. I am more concerned about whether they will feel obligated to attend when they would rather not. One of them is newly pregnant.

Would you invite a few non-parent friends to your LO's first birthday party? It is going to be a really small party so it could be seen as adults mingling with a play area for the babies. then we can all ooh and ahh over LO when he eats his cake, but that's really all i have planned. it will be only a couple of hours long.
