Dad wanted a wedding ring (he didn't have one originally because they weren't all that fashionable for men when they were married) and so they had the ring blessed at the same time. </p> <p>They'd been through a lot together in their thirty years of marriage. I think my brother had just finished cancer treatment around the same time. We had talked about doing one at 5 years but it's more of an excuse to do an actual church wedding now that we have a home church. We will definitely do something with family. If not a renewal an anniversary party for sure. We got married after having known each other for a few months and as a result didn't have a lot of DH's family there...his choice. Now that I know his family really well I would love to have a party to celebrate our families becoming one, even if it is 5 years later :) Plus, we got married on a cruise and it was so much fun, I wouldn't mind paying for our families to experience that again :) </p> <p>On top of all this, I would go if a friend had one, even if it were every year. Free food? Music? Friends? There was a lot of pressure to have family there and while we loved celebrating with our loved ones, we were discussing and even somewhat planning a small destination wedding. Now that we've been through our years of marriage and our relationship has grown and changed through two kids, etc. I'd love to renew our vows by saying them again. I'd like to do it at our 10 year anniversary next year and every 10 years after that. I would want to do a private ceremony with just us, our children, and our pastor. </p> <p>It would be great to throw a big party too! But knowing me and party planning, the actual vows would be eclipsed by a big party.
