@mfa_lady: I was in a similar situation with my first. I was a WOH mom and nursed in the morning, at night, and I had an enormous freezer stash. At 9 months, I consolidated my pumping schedule at work first - so I pumped once instead of twice. (instead of pumping at 10 and 2, I gradually changed my schedule so I only pumped at 11:30). I felt so much more productive at work without having to start and stop all the time. I eventually go to the point where I was just nursing morning and night (and not pumping)!!! It was so wonderful!

@regberadaisy: You know, so smart. In my calculations I never considered that I'm still nursing on the weekend! #mombrain. And thanks for the encouragement!

@MrsKoala: That's my next decision...which of those two will I pick? Haha.

@josina: Wow, that's awesome! What an impressive stash. And even better to know that your supply didn't change much when you dropped session. Thanks!

I would drop 1 session at least... I went from 4 sessions to 2/day at 8-9 months and I'm getting only 1 to 2 ounces less a day. LO is 10 months and I'm waaaay ahead of him (over 1,000 oz frozen) that now I'm afraid I'll have to start throwing it away!

I'd drop one of the work pumps and go down to one or the one in the morning after her first feed.

@mfa_lady: hm. I would if I wanted to. By my calculations you have enough in the freezer to feed her for over 6 weeks of bottles (5days at daycare). That should be more than enough for getting sick, period coming back and who knows. If you drop one session, I'm guessing you'll need to pull a bottle from the freezer for each daycare day. Which might not be a bad thing either. 4x a day is a lot of pumping! Go you!

@LBee: This is how I feel, too. It would be LIFE-CHANGING for me to have even 15 minutes back in the morning. I pump right before I leave work, so the evening pump is a pain but not holding me back--I usually do it right before I go to sleep! I think my husband will be happiest when that one's gone...going to sleep to the sound of a breast pump isn't the most soothing... :P

@snowjewelz: Thanks, lady! I feel good about it, but am kind of a chicken and might wait until 10 months anyway. Just to be safe!

I'd drop that morning session too, esp if she emptied your breast more or less, it shouldn't affect supply! But if you are nervous, just wait till 10 month. It's really great that she is nursing great and you're still getting lots out!

@mfa_lady: I think that makes sense. I was amazed at what a difference having that extra time in the morning made! The feed / pump that was the hardest for me was the evening, as it kept me from going to dinner with my husband and/or friends. I will say that dropping that feed made the biggest impact on my quality of life. If the morning session is the shortest, I would say that one will be easy to drop.

@LBee: I'm wondering if my best bet would be to drop the session right after she eats in the morning. She eats from both sides, but doesn't completely empty. (Close, but not quite.) When my supply took a little dive around 5 months PP--when she also started drinking more milk--I added that session to eek out a couple extra ounces a day. That pumping session is the shortest. What do you think? (Also, what a stash! Go mama, go!)

@blackbird: Best comment! Haha. She actually takes 19oz a day, because of the bedtime bottle. But that's still a month's supply, and even if my supply dropped a little I could probably be fine until a year. Also--so good to know that you had good experience dropping one. Woo hoo!

@Alivoo01: Good call. I keep forgetting that I can do that if I need to at the very end.

I would calculate what 600oz equates to day/month wise for you (leave a lil room for error like date night or spillage (knock on wood)). If you're close to a year or even 11 months, you can start introducing/mixing WCM (or whatever milk you choose) with your BM!

Good lord 600 ounces?! I would abso-fuckinglutely drop at least one session and drop them all soon after.

Have you calculated out how long that milk will last you? If your LO drinks 12 ounces a day, that's almost 2 months worth of milk!

(also, I dropped from 3 sessions to 2 sessions, and unless i'm having a super stressful week, I can still make all of T's bottles for daycare, so...)

@mfa_lady: I would start trying to drop a session. I did not anticipate how long it would take me to drop a session. Maybe I did it way too slow, but when I started dropping sessions at 9 months it took me about 2 weeks for the first session (quicker for subsequent sessions). I had more than you in the freezer at 9 mos (2000 ounces), but I quit pumping all together at 10.5 months and I still have about 600 ounces in the freezer (he's 14 months and I was down to 1 session at 11 months and 0 sessions at 12 months). I didn't anticipate he would start moving down his milk intake as he neared 12 months.

@ElbieKay: I was thinking another month, too. For some reason 10 months seems like a safer bet! And as for the pumping, it's not as selfless as it sounds--ha! When she was much younger, she FREAKED when I tried to leave the room after nursing, but did much better when he put her down. We never got out of the habit because he enjoyed that feed so much!

@MrsSRS: @Mrs Green Grass: Good points! By now, I like to think my supply is established enough that if I cut one it might stay the same. I may give it a few more weeks and then try cutting one out!

I say yes! When I was around that many I got the same number of ounces from fewer sessions. Once I was under 4 total feeds then my supply started to drop. But either way, with that much milk saved I'd say for sure do it.

Could you drop your earlier work session and see how your output is? It might not drop significantly if you still empty fully at your later work session.

I would wait a few more weeks, maybe a month, then try it. Right now you have about 24 days of milk in the freezer.

Btw it's really nice of you to pump a bottle so your husband can feed the baby. I hated pumping and worked to aggressively minimize the amount I had to do. So there is no way I would have pumped when I could have just nursed!

LO is just over 9 months old. She's still nursing, and also eating solids like a champ. On weekdays, she nurses when she gets up, has bottles during the day at her sitter's, and has a bottle before bed so DH gets some snuggle time. On weekends, she nurses 3-4 times and gets that same bedtime bottle.

On weekdays, I pump 4x. Once after her morning feed, twice at work, and once before bed. On weekends I pump after her morning feed and before bed. Here's the thing: I have over 600oz in my freezer and am wondering if I should drop a pumping session.

On weekdays, she drinks 19oz of expressed milk on top of her morning nursing session. I'm pumping from 18-23oz a day, over the course of those 4 pumps. By a year, our ped recommends she be drinking 16-18oz of breast milk total, instead of the 24/25 she's drinking now.

It would make things SO much easier for me to drop one of the pumps, but I'm afraid it's too early. 3 months is a long time, and anything could happen. I know I have to figure out what will work best for us, but if it was you....what would you do? Would you drop one of the weekday sessions?
