You are taking it a step further by combining a character's first and last name into one name then using the first name as a nickname. To me it's not the same. Our friend reminded us that it's a character's name in the Hunger Games, Effie Trinkett. It bothered me a little that people would often say "OH FROM HUNGER GAMES?", probably because neither of us are fans of the books/movies. If we liked it, it would be a cool bonus. But while some people do say that, many who I mention it to say they didn't even make the connection.
