@winniebee: Oh wait, my answer just changed after reading the other comments! Are the seat belt settings the same for both kids?

Even if you are okay with her letting the other child use it I would still bring it up to her to make sure she knows how to properly adjust the seat for each kid. I would also confirm the other child fits within the requirements of the seat, damage could be done if she is too big for it.

It would annoy me a little but I wouldn't necessarily tell her to stop. DH might hahaha.

Is it that she has the other kid's carseat and your child's carseat in the back, but the other kid likes yours? Or does this kid not need a car seat at all?

If I were to think as the other parent, I wouldn't want my kid to sit in another kid's carseat just because I would want the settings to be tailored to fit properly.

Maybe you can bring it up that way and just casually mention maybe the other child's parents will want her to ride in her designated seat for safety reasons?

My initial reaction is to be kind of ticked that she didn't ask. But after thinking about it for awhile, I think that I'd be more concerned with her uninstalling/reinstalling the seat on a regular basis.

Since you really like her, I would try to look past it.

Yeah, I would have liked if she let you know first or soon after doing it. Even a little, "I hope you don't mind..."

But seeing a therapist has made me try to be more open about different perspectives. Maybe she thought you wouldn't mind. Maybe she meant to tell you but never got around to it. Could she have mentioned it to your DH and he never said anything to you? I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt since you like her.

I would have liked for her to ask, but since you would have said yes, I'd just grit my teeth and deal with it.
But I might say something like "I just want to make sure that my kid has the proper fit and settings every time she's in it. So while I know uninstalling and reinstalling new seats is overkill, the belts and adjustments SHOULD be made every time".
Also, I would be weird about not wanting another kids food and milk and stuff in my seat. But that's me. I get kinda grossed out easily. But again, since it's one day a week for just the summer (which is almost over) I still might just bite my tongue on that.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: agreed. I was always a driver so I often had other people in my car! So to have seats installed constantly would have been a huge imposition. I'd assume the other kid was using it actually! But I agreed, it would have been nice to get to okay first!

It would only bother me if the other child needed a big adjustment of the straps - just because I'm uptight about my LO having his straps at the proper safety settings. Oh and if the other kid puked or peed in it. Asking would have been better but I probably wouldn't say or do anything about it.

I'm stingy, so yes this would bother me. However, the nanny's backseat is taken up by both of your carseats. Where else is the little girl suppose to sit unless the nanny plays musical carseats every week? My desire for the carseats to stay put would outweigh how much I dislike the idea of another LO using my LO's things though. The nanny should have definitely asked since she basically brought something of value to the table for the other family thanks to you.

I'm with @Foodnerd81: I wouldn't be concerned about so called "wear and tear". However, I would be annoyed that I wasn't asked first and would also ask that muddy feet and food not be put in the car seat...

I would much rather another kid sit in the seat rather than continually uninstalling it. I would have a convo with the nanny though, ensuring the car seat is properly adjusted to my child each time she rides in it. I'm crazy enough I would probably check it on occasion too...

I'd rather the car seat stay in the car and it sounds like she leaves them in the car, which is a nice safety thing of her to do. So I don't think I'd be bothered or say anything. I'd much rather that then start switching seats around and it is her car that they're always taking up room in.

I think the fact that it stays in her car all the time (taking up space in her vehicle) makes this not bother me at all. it would have been weird if she took the seat from your garage without asking to use for another child...but it just sounds like this was far more convenient than taking your seat out to put another seat in and vice versa. honestly that would be a huge pain, and since having another kid sit in the seat isnt doing any harm I wouldn't have thought anything of it.

@Foodnerd81: I guess for me, stained up and dirty falls under wear and tear. Ripped up? I don't know, I haven't experienced that with my seat fortunately. Yet, that is :). The only lo I want spilling things, or potentially peeing in my car seat is the lo I purchased it for. Unless, I knew it'd be a shared seat to begin with, and then I wouldn't splurge on the seat as much. But, just for a summer on Fridays? Probably not a big deal. But, I'm pretty sure someone going into a nanny share for instance would know this.

To the whole "wear and tear on the seat" thing- is that really a a thing? i have never heard of a seat getting worn out- kids grow out of them or they expire, which will happen no matter how often or infrequently it is used. Getting dirty is a different question of course, especially if the kid eats in it.

But I still agree she should have asked.

@dc yoga bee: Yes, it's our seat. I bought it and it's been in her car for a year!

@raspberries: it really just bothers me that she didn't ask. I think it's really presumptuous for her to assume that she can use our car seat for another child. I'm sure if the other kid made a mess of the seat, she would clean it.

It's just for this summer that she's watching the other girl on Fridays, so really only a few months of "wear on the seat." I just feel like I would never use someone else's XYZ for another person unless I asked first. The other thing is, I'm sure she is not adjusting it for the other girl, who I know is a different size than my kiddo. Same age, but he's a peanut. I guess that's not my problem though?!

I would rather have been asked but would say yes anyway. I'd rather another kid sit in it than have it get taken in and out of the car that much more often. I feel like the risk of a sloppy installation is greater than some extra wear and tear. I would expect her not let the kid make a mess of it though.
