I agree as long as LO is getting naps its great and now the nanny will have friends for future playdates. Our nanny did the same thing with our son taking him to the park for "playdates" every day. Now that he's older (17 months) we make sure that if they are at all near our apartment he should be napping in his crib but if they are at a friend's house (20 minute walk) its ok for him to take his afternoon nap in his stroller. I'd say 4 of 5 days each week he naps in his crib and that other day doesn't really disrupt his schedule too much.

I would do this daily with my 3 1/2 mo old if we both enjoyed it. Listening to others interact is good for early literacy/language development. You could even suggest she take in in a store or two. T loves Old Navy randomly- I think it's the bright colors and all the people. The first time we went I thought she was in a good mood- but I realized the second time it's the store. As long as the babe is getting naps it sounds great.

Sounds fine to me. Listen to your gut, don't let others question your decisions. You know your baby and nanny best.

I don't think this would bother me since it sounds like it's not all day every day. In my area, NYC, I think there is pushback against nannies taking the babies out all day just so they can hang out with one another (while also, some say, ignoring the babies and their needs). But as long as your baby can sleep on the go and is getting enough tummy time etc, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I would say this is fine if your baby naps well in the stroller/on the go. This would have worked for DD1, but not DD2 who HAD to nap at home, for example. But then they start consolidating naps anyway and then it's easier to do longer outings.

I think this is totally fine! And even if most of the benefit is for your nanny, I don't think it's a big deal. How many of us would want to be confined to our homes for 8 hours in the day? With a (sometimes cranky) LO?
I think as long as the trip doesn't interfere with naps it's not a big deal, and it sounds like it doesn't if she naps there sometimes. (My son never naps in the stroller, I wish he would!)

I wouldn't have a problem either! So long as she's kept cool because 30 minutes is a pretty long walk - x2!

And pp made a good point of forming bonds for future play dates when lO is old enough!

I agree that it's nice for the baby to get out - our nanny has always taken DS on walks etc. The only thing we discussed with her at that age (basically until he could walk) was that we wanted to make sure he had enough "flat time" - time in his activity gym, rolling, crawling, etc. We basically didn't want her to have him in the stroller or to hold him all day. She was happy to oblige of course.

In general, I think getting out of the house is good for LOs...the only way I would have trouble with this is if the nanny started missing my LOs naps times or something to go to the mall play dates.

I have several friends with nannies in my town and a couple of them have had problems with their nannies having their kiddos "nap on the go" to go to a standing play date with their nanny friends--but at a certain point, if the kiddo is better off having a good nap in their crib at home, then the nanny needs to respect that. At 5 months, your baby is still a ways from that point.

I actually think it is fantastic! Baby gets out of the house, fresh air, and at 5 months my kids both LOVED watching other kids play and would track and follow their movements. Caregiver gets some mental stimulation. I don't see any down sides!

Nope, sounds good to me! When my dd was that age I was a little paranoid about germs and mall play areas, since they get so crowded with toddlers, but really, this sounds like a better option than the nanny staying home IMO! As your lo gets older you could add classes or whatever if/when you feel more stimulation is needed!

I'm with everyone else. I wouldn't have an issue with it! And while it's probably more beneficial for nanny, at this point, it isn't doing any harm for baby and a happy nanny is going to provide better quality care, so it's all a win!

I think your DD actually would get bored being in the house all day! I think it sounds like the nanny is doing something beneficial for both of them. Sooner than you think she will be interacting with other kids and it will be great that there's already a "play date" of sorts set up.
