How frustrating! I definitely would warn people since it is so contagious. Friends of ours invited us over for a play date and said her DD has gotten over the flu, but when we got there she was coughing and sneezing and puking all over my baby @_@ surprisingly, my DD didn't get sick.

Yes, she should have warned you! We canceled our entire family Thanksgiving dinner because someone exposed my nephew to something and didn't tell his mom about it until he'd been in contact with the extended family, and they didn't want me to get it.

I would warn visitors ahead of time. We went to see a friend and his niece and nephew were there, both of whom were recovering from HFM. We left our LO with grandparents and made sure to scrub our hands when we went to pick her up.

I feel like you should have been warned. I tell friends, especially if they have infants, if we have any diseases in the house. I might not say anything if it is the sniffles or the end of a cold, but HFM is not a cold.

She should have warned you before! And I wouldn't have gone either.

I found out that my friend's son had HFM a few hours after we had a playdate. Yikes! Thankfully my kids didn't get it.

I think its rude!
We went to a friends giving too, and my friend warned me that their LO was getting over a cold. She asked if we still wanted to come.

If your son gets sick, I'd send a text like, "well J is sick:( Man, I really wish you would've warned us that so&so was sick before we brought J over"
Because that's just rude of them in my opinion.
But, if he doesn't get sick (hopefully he doesn't!), then just let it go.

I would definitely warn someone with a kid- even if their kid wasn't coming, I'd warn them on the off chance that they could carry it home to the kid. I'd be pissed in your situation but I probably wouldn't say anything unless Lo gets sick (which does sound unlikely). But I'd probably be a little passive aggressive and the next time I saw them, ask if their kid was getting over any illnesses.

Oh man, I would def be a bit annoyed/aggravated that they didn't say anything, but if what @locavore_mama said is true and that it was no longer contagious, I probably wouldn't say anything just yet. I hope J doesn't get sick! If he were to get sick though, I would probably say something.

@Kemma: ugh, yeah - didn't even think about that. They were so blasé about it, which, in hindsight, is annoying.

@mrs. wagon: I know - I wasn't going to bring it up unless my LO gets it - but DH thinks I should. But, my friend is sensitive. He will be mad at me - so maybe I don't say anything and from now on I just have to ask if his LO is sick before we visit. You're probably right though that they didn't say anything since she was past the contagious stage.

I warned people that we were even going to see out in public and I cancelled plans that would have taken place at our house when HFM went through all of us. Even though like @locavore_mama: said it wasn't contagious anymore (which is probably why your friend didn't feel the need to warn you or ask if you wanted to cancel), I would have let you know if I were them.

I don't think I'd bring it up with them though. I'd just blame them to their faces if your LO ends up with it ;) Or next time you talk to them, mention that your LO didn't get it, thank God. I guess that's a little passive-aggressive though!

I'd be pissed about not being warned! And just because their LO was over the worst doesn't mean the adults in the house weren't getting it or carrying the virus. My DH actually had it and we stayed away for almost three weeks even though neither Miss A or I had it - I just didn't want to pass it on so we gave visitors and friends the option to cancel or reschedule.

But if it's eased your mind at that point it's no longer contagious.

Question.

We went to visit friends this past weekend for a friendsgiving. Our son and their child are 8 weeks apart so it's fun to see them together (and we live far apart so get togethers are rare).

We arrive and about 30-45 minutes after we got there they told us their LO was just getting over coxaxie/hand foot mouth.

Ugh. Our son had already drunk from their sippy cup and germs had been swapped.

I'm hoping we avoid it - LO felt a little warm, but he is usually warm so hopefully he is fine.

But now I am a little annoyed. Wouldn't you warn other people before going over? I know they thought if they told us ahead we wouldn't go (which is probably true) but at least tell us when we arrive so I can avoid the shared-sippy incident and try to minimize exposure.

Or maybe I am over thinking this? I would tell someone in advance. Just the day before a friend called before we came over to let us know their son had pink eye, so we cancelled.

I'm thinking about calling my friend and telling him my thoughts on this, but am not sure if I am over-reacting.
