Yup! I actually just got our teacher's number from her so we could set something up. My LO is going through a "I HATE STRANGERS" phase. So I would be much more able to enjoy a date night if I knew she was with someone she was comfortable with and who knew all of her little quirks and how to care for her. I swear whenever we leave her with a friend or family member they feed her like twice as much as she needs to eat because whenever she fusses they assume she's hungry!

@mediagirl: Absolutely! The people at her daycare are so good with her and we trust them so much. I would love it if they would because I know she would be comfortable with them.

@LemonLong: Wow! I understand but that is crazy.

Its my understanding that most daycare teachers are pretty expensive baby sitters. If I had a newborn I think it would be worth the money, but for older children, I will probably find a high school student that I can trust and afford.

Its against our daycares policies to ask any of the teachers to babysit. We also signed a contract saying if any of the teachers resigned from the center to nanny for us we would have to pay a $500 finders fee to the center.

Sure! I used to work in a daycare and an after-school program at an elementary school and got asked to babysit all the time. I think it was an ideal situation because the kids and parents already knew me and trusted me. I don't think the parents ever felt weird about having me in their home...

I worked at a daycare and babysat for one of the boys in my classroom. A few others had mentioned wanting me to babysit as well but then I ended up having to quit the daycare to finish up school so it never happened, but I think it worked out well and would do it!

Yep, one of Wagon Jr.'s teachers always told us that she'd love to babysit for him any time. After my mom left we took her up on it, and she even brings him home once a week (we leave one of our spare carseats in her car) on days when Wagon Sr. can't make it home in time for dinner. Then she helps with WJ while I put LMW to bed. We also have her sit when we go on date nights... which we are tonight!

I love that we can trust her because she's employed full time by our accredited daycare (so she has all her certifications for CPR, etc) and Wagon Jr. loves it. He's always bragging to his classmates that she came to his house. She brings a craft project every time. We haven't used her for putting the kids to bed yet (we just put them to bed and go out after since they're both in bed by 7) but since she helps him during naptime at school we're confident she could easily put him to bed as well.

Our daycare lady says that she does "date night" sitting at her home. The rate is $20 for 4 hours. I've been tempted to take her up on that, but LO is with her about 25 hours a week as is, and I don't want to feel like she is always at daycare. (I know she isn't, and is actually there less than a lot of kids).

I definitely would! I worked at a daycare in college and was asked all the time by parents if I could babysit outside of daycare hours. I was always happy to do it! The only thing I wouldn't do is sign their LO out of daycare and transport them home, just because of liability reasons.

I like the idea in theory because they already know LO and I love them and trust them; but I don't think I would. I try to keep really separate lines between my personal and professional stuff though. There is just something about it that makes me a little uncomfortable, though I can't put my finger on it (and so it's probably my own issue, haha)

Yep, I've done that. I was stuck trying to find someone to watch E when I had a hair appt booked and DH had to run into the office, so I called our daycare lady and she happily took her that Saturday afternoon! Another girl I work with has done the same thing, it's great because they already know your LO.

One of M's daycare teachers (who I trust with her life) told me yesterday that she babysits for one of the boys who is now in the 2's room. I noted that in case we are ever looking for a sitter who isn't my parents. I think she would be willing to drive out to our house to sit for Megan if we pay her enough...we're about 15 minutes from daycare but you can take back roads to get there.
