Sounds like my LO who when we took her to a speech therapist she said she was just a late talker. Now at 3 she repeats a lot and is stringing words together. She still doesn't talk like her peers but she's getting there. I worried about it a lot but am just letting her go at her pace.

That's just about the age when many people get nervous...then it really takes off. I would try to relax for the next few months and then reevaluate.

It's good you are already in speech therapy. My oldest was also late to talk. I think they wanted 50+ words and starting to put 2 words together at 2 years and he was not. Within a few months he went from barely speaking at all to full sentences. I happened so fast, like in one week. It happened when we joined a play group with slightly older kids - like 6 months older - and were meeting up with them regularly. Just a thought if you want to try more than speech therapy. But I bet you will get there soon enough!

I would feel concerned, as you do, but you have taken the right steps to help him out and it sounds like you know him well. He will probably just take a bit longer than others. My brother was the exact same way at a similar age. He was not as social though. He had speech therapy and after a while he just started talking more. He caught up to everyone else just fine after a few years.

i wouldn't worry, my nephew was the same way and the dr said, what's more important is the he understood what you were saying more than talking.

Agree that if he's already in speech, you're doing a great job addressing any needs he has. If you're concerned that he's not making progress, I would talk to his speech path or case manager (if it's early intervention). When did he start speech?

I wouldn't be, because this is almost exactly how L was! SUPER SLOW talker. It wasn't until after she turned two that she slowwwwwly started picking up words, and not until after 3 that she would really speak in multiple sentences or have a small conversation. Somewhere around 38 months she had a HUGE boom, and now at 40 months I'd say she's perfectly caught up to every other child her age.

I never sent her to any additional therapies, even though daycare was trying to gently suggest I should. While I *was* slightly worried (because you can't be a mom and not worry!!), I could just tell that she was quiet, and cautious, and stubborn, and wanted to watch the world instead of explore and discover the world. I knew she would talk in her own time.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can. Does he get speech every week?

DS is 22 months and hardly talks . the only consistent words he has are momma and Dada. He has probably said about ten other words but never uses them more then a couple times EVER. He doesn't babble a lot or make much noise (never babbled as a baby). He is very social though. He is on speech therapy and his hearing test came back normal last week. His speech therapist seems to think it's his personality since he has always been quiet and he is very stubborn. Lol.
Would you be worried?
I admit I am worries about it but feel like it may just be his personality too.
