For example, I'd be bummed if my parents took DD to get her first picture taken with Santa. But I'd actually like for some of her "firsts" to be with other members of her family - they make for some great memories. In this case, I think I'd be irritated about the quality of the haircut, more than anything else. I think more hurt because my MIL takes it upon herself often to do things she wants/thinks are ok when they really aren't. She doesn't have much respect with these types of things. Hair choices are very personal and I can't believe she did that without asking. What the heck? I would talk to her and feel resolved that she understood that was/ is not okay and if I felt she was sorry and understood I would let itigo and move on if it were my lo. It isn't permanent at least. Just odd behavior so I would be concerned she thought that was okay. Pretty ballsy and I don't like that. For other firsts (zoo, etc.) I think it depends on the activity. However, I deserved to be asked and grant the ok. Honestly, this seems more about boundaries and respect than anything else.
