We have one and don't plan on buying another.
Dd will be 3 next month, so in around 6 months we plan on seating DS in the Tripp trapp and dd will sit in a regular chair. She sits in her Tripp trapp maybe 50% of the time at this point.

Haha, my 3 year old will not sit in a Tripp trapp, he thinks they are baby seats.

I'd look for something else.

As long as your older LO will still sit in it then I would definitely get two! My BFF had her kids 4 years apart and her older one sat in the Tripp Trapp until she was 4.5 years old when her little brother started eating solids.

I don't think it's overkill.. they are so useful for older kids as well. We didn't end up buying another one for my DS since my DD decided she just wanted to sit in the regular dining chair. I do think about buying another one from time to time though, since she is still a little small for the dining chair.

DH's job gave him a generous gift certificate for our DD's birth. It is valid at a mall and the mall only has one store that sells baby gear. I think we have everything we need as far as gear goes, so I'm thinking about buying a second Stokke Tripp Trapp chair (the gift certificate would cover a bit more than half of the cost). We have one for DS already. He is three, so we could probably put him in a regular chair in a few more months and let DD have the Tripp Trapp. But then again, I imagine he could probably still use the Tripp Trapp for years to come. Is it overkill to have two?
