Thanks for all the responses! This is a designer crib so there is no way I would spend that kind of $ on it new. It does meet all safety standards and I would only buy it if all the parts were accounted for and in good condition. I probably won't buy from this seller though, because it's like pulling teeth to get any info from her. She did respond to me to let me know what finish it was, but i still haven't seen any actual pictures of the item so I feel like I'd go all the way to her apartment and see there is damage or teeth marks.

I probably wouldn't. We bought a new crib from target with a coupon for only 100$ we wouldn't have saved that much by buying used.

I bought a used Oeuf Classic Crib, and I even bought her organic mattress to go with it. It was in great condition and something I would not have been able to afford new. I made sure it had all of the parts before I purchased it, but it has worked out great so far and is totally safe.

I would, but I don't want to spend a lot of time going to look at crappy ones that claim to be I good condition, which is a lot of what you find on CL around here. I'd still buy a new mattress. If I saw one in great condition at a garage sale, definitely. I would prefer it to be set up so I know it isn't missing anything, after readin these responses :)

Yeah, I would, depending on the condition.

As for needing a new crib for each kid, no way. The LO I'm due with now is going to be sleeping in ds's old crib. Granted, I know where it's been and all, but it was a nice, expensive crib with a nice mattress that my dad bought for me when I was pregnant in ds and I have no reason not to use it again.

Nope, a crib was on my short list of things to buy new (along with carseat & pump). I might have if I knew the person but not off C L or a yard sale, I'm just extra paranoid.

I bought my ds's crib brand new, he never slept in once. I sold it in a garage sale (before craigslist was huge!), since I experienced forking over $$$ on a piece of furniture we never used we bought our dd's at a garage sale. I have my standards though, no more than 3 years old, not recalled, no missing pieces, no dents, no teeth marks. Most of the ones on craigslist had teeth marks! This was one was perfect.

I would be too worried. We were offered a crib for only like $50. There were a few reasons we passed- one being it was a drop side even though they'd made it stationary.

I think the only way I'd consider is A. Someone I knew or B. the crib was pretty much knew.

One of my conditions to the purchase would be that the bed be reassembled as a crib before I bought it. I know it's a lot of hassle, but I figure at least I can see if anything is missing or damaged.

I'm curious to hear from all perspectives about this. Would you buy a used crib? Why or why not? Is it important for a crib to be new for each baby? Does a crib take too much wear and tear from one infant to be worth anything?

I found a high-end crib for sale on Craigslist for a great price, but I'm nervous about buying used. It's 2 years old and currently converted to a toddler bed, so I'm assuming it's been used every day for 2 years straight. The seller claims its in great condition and I would of course check it out first before buying, but am I crazy for even considering it?
