@LaineysMom: I ordered them in WG and if they cause a problem, I can even exchange them for YG. Thank you for telling me that so I could clarify terms with them:). The WG was so much cuter but I really thought about what you said!

So I ordered these from our jeweler...They had a big sale and I got them for $125 which wasn't too bad...She doesn't get he 4 month shots until mid April so we can't get her ears pierced until after that but I'll update then!!

@PrincessBaby: most white gold is a a mixture of yellow gold and nickel. Some white gold is yellow gold and palladium and platinum, but it's more rare.. I have a severe nickel allergy, so I only buy white gold when I know the alloy doesn't include nickel.

I wouldn't because I'm a cheapskate, but I would be totally cool with them if they were a gift. My mom bought me a little strand of baby pearls when I was a newborn, and I passed them down to my little girl. She wore them in her newborn pics (in my avatar), and I love them. I'm sure my mom would die to buy her some little studs if Sadie got her baby ears pierced.

@wheres_c: the diamonds on the earrings are SO tiny. Most people probably wouldn't think they were real.

I didn't read the previous posts, but I would want to buy small diamond studs for my daughter (when she's older since we don't plan on piercing her ears any time soon). My DH wouldn't let me though. :D haha. We had this discussion a while back.

I was talking to SO about how heated the earring debate is. He brought up a point i dont think i saw here. What if someone saw them on her and tried to steal them?
He mentioned that a bad guy wouldnt hesitate to rip them out of your baby's ears.....perhaps something to think about.

I think maybe when you hear "diamond earrings" what some people think of is studs large enough for an adult to wear. I have some passed down from my grandmother that are about .75 ct each. That for a baby? No way. But baby earrings are typically tiny - more like .05 ct. They aren't a giant, grand gift to be treasured and worn for the rest of their life.

I was gifted a lot of fine jewelry when I was little (made of gold, gemstones, etc.). I think it's pretty common in Jewish families? Or maybe it was just my grandma, idk lol. I still have some of it, including a tiny gold ring with a heart and a (very small) diamond in the middle. I look forward to having my daughter be able to wear it some day.

$100 for nice earrings doesn't sound too outrageous, especially if it's something that'll be a keepsake.

I would want a gift like diamond earrings to be something treasured and appreciated by my daughter. I would consider gifting them to her for a momentous birthday (16, 18, 21...) but would not put them in a baby's ears.

maybe when shes older. If I did buy them for her now I would save them. My father bought her rose gold anklets with bells on them and I'm scared to put them on because they were very expensive.

At $100 I probably would. I have sensitive skin and can only wear gold and platinum. If we decided to get our daughter's ears pierced I would absolutely invest in a precious metal and since diamond earrings usually use gold, I'd totally get a pair for her.

I would do it, or maybe 22k gold studs, as Turtledoves suggested. Giving babies jewelry (like maybe a gold bracelet) is pretty common in South Asian culture, so i think Dh would be okay with it too--especially if it were only $100.

Check out this link of "baby jewelry" at an online Indian store:
http://www.meenajewelers.com/22Kt_Gold/Baby_Jewelry/Baby_Bangles/

Spending THAT much on a baby is crazy to me, so it would make me feel okay about spending $100.

@Boogs: I agree with the screw-backs.
They are actually SUPER hard to get off..and i'm 24 years old! So, I can't imagine a child under 5 would even be able to take them off if they tried. Plus, to my knowledge, "high end" jewlery or precious stone earrings, only come ins crew-backs. I have only ever seen them that way, but I could be wrong.
I would also consider pure yellow gold earrings as well as diamonds.

I don't have a LO yet, but I think I'd pass on this. I feel like diamonds are very special...I think I'd want to save her first diamond gift for later on down the road when she's able to really enjoy and understand the specialness (if that makes sense). A part of me thinks that if we started gifting diamonds at 4 months, they might not mean much later on down the road?

I'm also not 100% sure where I stand on ear piercing. I had mine pierced when I was 5. It was a special day spent with my mom and grandma and I really treasure that memory. I think I'd like my little girl to have a similar memory if possible.

Hmmm,...I'm still weighing this out! I emailed our jeweler to see if they have them/can get them...I was kind of thinking that the screwbacks might be of better quality from them, as opposed to some random place off the internet. I think my main concern is making sure they don't come off easily/choke hazard...

No, maybe when she's older, but I've seen my niece at 18 months lose so many pairs of earrings that I would never get expensive ones. However, I'm also against piercing ears until she can ask for them, I think it's a personal decision that she should be able to make on her own.
