@Freckles: I hear ya.... I'd talk to the current center and see how full they are (ie if your space will be filled immediately after you leave), and see if you can work out a situation where you can hold your space for 2 weeks (maybe they can give you a discounted price to hold it for a bit?) I guess you have to figure out how to put it. Hopefully they are not completely full and you can always go back.

I'd definitely switch if I were you, and your new center does sound to be a good option! But I'd work out something with the old daycare as a plan B. 2 weeks will be enough to tell if the new center is truly a good place...

Good luck! Keep us posted!

@irene: That's what i'm afraid of! Even though there are a lot of things i don't like about the daycare, what if she doesn't like the caregivers at the new place? What if she was better cared for at her current daycare? Ahhhh...

So difficult, I wonder if you can hold the spot in the current daycare for 2 weeks (paid) and try it out at the new place..?

I have heard from friends that they didn't like their daycare (eg. they let babies watch TV for a bit on rainy days, and her LO fell and they forgot to tell my friend 2 days later...etc.), but they have no option because everywhere else is full. I'd hate it if you switched from a place that you seem OK about, and then find out things later that you didn't like about this new place.

@keiki_mama: Our current daycare's caregivers in LO's room are Korean, which works out perfectly since LO is half. I guess a part of me felt that maybe they'd take better care of her since she's Korean? I have a feeling we may make the switch...i just can't find reviews anywhere!

Wow. Have you toured the daycare in your building? How comfortable do you feel with it? If I was comfortable with it, I would move in a nano-second if it was in my building!!

@Freckles: I was so, so hesitant to make the switch. Even after we gave notice to the old daycare I was still doubting myself. There were few reviews online for our new daycare provider but my husband's coworker used to take her LO there (he has since moved on to preschool) and spoke very highly of our new care provider. One huge driving factor was language! The old daycare only spoke English whereas new daycare speaks Chinese which is something I hope LO becomes fluent in. My parents (and many relatives) don't speak English and I'd hate for LO to be unable to communicate with my side of the family.

New daycare takes off the 1st week in April, July, and between Christmas and New Year but luckily old daycare provides drop in service so he still gets to see his baby homies and daycare teachers once in a while.

@keiki_mama: That's awesome. Were you hesitant to make the switch? What made you change? Omg, how do you have $350 when the daycare provides such great food? (Sorry, so many questions, i know)

@Freckles: Worse case scenario--if your LO doesn't like it at the new daycare, how easy would it be to put him back in the old one? Do they have a wait list?

@Freckles: LO started at his former daycare when he was 3 1/2 months and switched daycares at 11 months. He's been at the new daycare for a little more than 1 month and he is doing fine! It was kind of a big deal for me because he was still getting 2 naps at the old daycare but the new daycare does 1 nap a day. He naps well, still sleeps through the nght, interacts with the other children, and is generally happy. I will say, the new daycare only has one other infant around his age (9 months) whereas the old daycare had 8 his age so play time is probably a bit different. The new daycare also provides food whereas the old one did not. It's good fresh food too! Nothing processed. He's always snacking on fruit when I get him =) They try to buy organic when possible but sometimes it's too expensive.

@T.H.O.U.: @Bookworm: @Amelieisme: @LuLu Mom: The current daycare is a 5 minute drive from our house. DH drives the car there, and then takes the bus to work. I take the bus to the daycare (20-25 minutes) and then drive LO back home.

@keiki_mama: How did he deal with the transition? How old is he?

I would switch. We recently switched daycares even though LO is super attached to his daycare teachers. He is doing fine and we are saving $350 a month. Win!!!

I would probably switch of I were in your situation. The new daycare sounds great with the structured activity time and $200/month really adds up in savings.

We got a call from a daycare whose waiting list i was on while i was pregnant. They have an opening in May and i am really unsure as to whether i should move her.

Currently, LO is almost 1 year old and her room is from 0-18 month olds. I feel like the older babies aren't very challenged and the toys/activities aren't as stimulating. Since i'm not there, it's hard to really know what they do, but it seems like it's more "free time" than anything else. But the most important thing is that she seems to be quite attached to one particular caregiver.

The daycare seems to be on top of things. They do arts and crafts every day with the babies and have an information sheet that indicates how much they ate, diapers, etc. for the day. They have an indoor gym, do baby yoga, and also have an outdoor playground. It's in the same building as my work, and it's $200 cheaper.

The food issue is the same. It's pretty rare to find places that serve good, non-processed foods. :(

What would you do??
