@MrsSCB: @bhbee: @Sams Mom: thanks mamas! I had a sudden moment of clarity and decided to cancel the Monday morning appt for NT scan. Which is weird as I typically am a ‘give me all the Ultrasound’s and all the info’ kind of person too. Will stick with the NIPT and the anatomy scan for this one.

@GoGoSnoGirl: they caught my son's choroid plexus cyst at the anatomy scan, but I didn't even have an NT so I don't know if they would have caught it or not then.

@Autumnmama79: I think I mis-remembered, now that I think about the timing. I'm not sure if they caught the choroid plexus cyst then. It was probably a little later. Regardless, I was a "get any test they'll give me & insurance will cover" kinda girl. 😜

I was AMA last time and my practice was in the “one or the other” camp so I just did NIPT. I think (but not 100% sure) that it’s just too early to get a lot out of it compared to waiting for the anatomy scan which is often only about 6-8 weeks later and the development between provides a lot more info at that point. My OB did give me a super quick peek in the office around 11w because that was when I lost my last pregnancy and I was nervous, but no measurements or anything and she didn’t bill for it.

I did the NIPT with my second, and an NT wasn’t even mentioned. So I assume at my practice it’s one or the other!

@Autumnmama79: they do the nt if you decide not to do the nipt. They just won't do nipt and then also nt.
Yes they do an anatomy scan. I'm pretty sure that is standard everywhere. I also had a dating scan. They aren't anti ultrasound or anything

@pachamama: I also like getting the extra peek but wonder if it’ll add to my concerns waiting for the results?!

@MamaBear87: I like how accurate the NIPT is too. Interesting that your practice doesn’t do the NT, do they do an anatomy scan?

@nwm: wow! See, I was wondering why my dr said if I do the NIPT I didn’t need the NT, it seems like the more info the better.

@GoGoSnoGirl: I’m also AMA, and your comment has pretty much sealed my decision - now I’m really wondering why my dr would say don’t bother with the NT if I do the NIPT?!

We did both, but I was AMA. I believe it was at our NT scan that they found the choroid plexus cyst in DD's brain & thus resulted in 2 more scans scheduled. It did resolve, but I was happy to have all the info from these various tests.

I asked this question of my doctor because I wanted to skip the NT scan as well and she was pretty adamant that that there was still a small circle of abnormalities that the NIPT doesn’t search for that can be caught through an NT. Since both were covered my insurance I figured it was worth a few hours to just do it.

My midwife practice only does the nipt, if you opt to do it. We didn't do the nt, I missed the ultrasound but liked that the nipt is more accurate

@Autumnmama79: yeah j believe it's just Downs and also they could see some (very rare) anatomical issues I guess like with the head/bones etc. I always liked getting scans to check on the baby but I guess the NT scan isnt necessary!

@pachamama: thanks for your input! That’s what I was wondering, is it just the neck measurement (downs marker) that they are looking for or are there other things?

The scan appt is booked for Monday morning, not sure if I should cancel or keep it...

@Autumnmama79: My practice says there's no point in doing the NT scan if you do the blood /DNA NIPT. The DNA test is much more reliable anyway as NT scans can give you false positives. It does give you an extra ultrasound though and I think the NT tests for like one very rare thing? I forget but I wasn't concerned and I was concerned about everything 😂

Is there a point to having an NT scan if I’ve already done the NIPT? (Expecting those results next week)

Anything else that could be seen or flagged during an NT?
