I remember having a big 1st grade party that was drop off. If someone was a hosting a drop off party I would assume they have a plan for handling it. If I didn't know the mom I would probably plan to bump into her before that or chat her up while RSVPing.

Right now I'd say heck no, but I definitely recall first grade being the age when I went to parties solo as a kid, so maybe kindergarten I would but before then no.

I don't know, when we move back to our hometown, I would be more willing because it's a small community/everyone knows everyone, ect. However in the city we are in now, I would not feel comfortable dropping LO off in someone's home I do not know but would be okay in a public place.

At that age, yes. I mean, a party only lasts a few hours and I would only be a phone call away.

I'm probably too extreme, but my oldest wasn't allowed at a drop-off party until he was 12, and even then it was only because he had a phone. :bummed:

I think I might? I mean, it's not like I don't know where they live and it's not like she's the only one going to be there? It's a party with a designated start and end time. And kids at that age like to play by themselves anyways. I think I would want to be with them at a public place more than at a home because you just NEVER KNOW at a public place. But again ... like mrs. bee said, I grew up in nyc and i live in nj, so maybe it's just more common here?

hmm i think i would?

charlie had quite a few drop-offs at his 5th birthday party and i preferred it because space was tight. but it is maybe a little different here in ny where we interact with the other parents a lot since we all live within blocks of each other and walk everywhere.

drop-off parties at age 5 here are pretty common, but then again most of the parties are at public places.

We've had 2 drop off parties (for 5th birthdays, most kids were 4-6) but both were at pottery painting places. Not peoples homes. I'm not sure if I would drop off at a home. Probably not.

Maybe? A whole lot of 'depends' for my answer. For just a couple hours in an area that I'm comfortable with, with parents/kids that I'm semi-familiar with... likely.
A sleepover with parents that are brand new to me at the beginning of a school year in a town 20 minutes away - definitely not.

Probably not at 5, it would depend on my impression of the parents/child from seeing them at pick up. Probably yes for an older child.

My daughter is turning 5 and I would like to invite the girls (she said girls-only) from her class over to our house for a playdate birthday party. I preferably would just like the parents to drop off the kids so I don't need to entertain the adults. I will probably word the invitation nicely to say kids-only, but here is my question:

If you don't know the parent doing the invitation (I see the other moms at pickup/drop offs, but we only say hi to each other so we don't really know one another), would you send your kids to that person's house for 2 hours without you being there as well?

Just background information: the class has known each other since last September and while the parents might not know me, they probably know my daughter when they pick up/drop off their kids. The kids are between 4.5 - 5.5 years old.
