It also means a weird schedule and lots of solo parenting for me, but probably more quality time together, and a job that will make me feel more balanced as a person. </p> <p>Some of the house hunter moves seem crazy though! Our lifestyle is so much better here- we have so much more time as a family. He even went as far as crunching numbers, and determined that we could easily live there comfortably for about $2k a month.</p> <p>I actually think it would be so neat for our children to go to an International school. I think their education is top notch, and they'd be going to school with children from all nationalities... If you told me a year ago I would be living in Texas now I would have laughed in your face, yet here we are! Through a pretty random set of circumstances my husband ended up being offered his dream job. We drove from NYC to Texas two weeks after the offer. I'd never even been to Texas before! Pretty crazy but I'm happy we did it. It's nice to start fresh and get to know a very different place. We've been living in Australia where DH makes an absolutely ludicrous amount of money, but the work life balance sucks (he works approx 80 hrs per week including travel time, six days per week) and we hate where his current project is based. We're tired of living so far from family and moving every year or so when his project finishes and a new one starts, so we're throwing in the towel and moving to the UK in a couple of months.</p> <p>We will be making about 1/3 the salary but we'll be able to buy a house as we won't be moving every year, and we'll be living in a highly desirable part of the world with lots of culture, natural beauty, and easy access to the rest of the world. And we'll have DH's family nearby and my family a much closer plane journey away in the States. We thought about heading to America but the UK is much more in line with what we want.</p> <p>It is daunting as all hell right now, going through the immigration process, organising the shipping of our belongings from Australia and the US, selling off everything we don't need, organising bank credit and setting up new accounts overseas, house hunting for a rental for the first few months, organising flights, etc. DH is job hunting for a position over there and whilst he has received loads of interest, he probably won't get an offer until we get over there, which is a bit scary with a toddler and a newborn to think about...</p> <p>Basically, it's a whole big load of scary, daunting tasks to get through but we're committed to making this change in order to have the life we want and a better work life balance. We're super excited but I can't wait for us to be settled. Our big goal is to have bought a house and have moved in by Christmas. DH is turning in his four weeks notice at his current job next week and then the wheels are officially in motion!</p> <p>P.s. This will be the fourth time I have moved internationally in the past ten years.
