Kind of. My daughter eats best when she has a serving of fruit for breakfast, then a big lunch and dinner, and few snacks.

No I wouldn't, but he sometimes puts himself on a 2 meal schedule if I serve something new! I have pretty much cut out snacks though, he doesn't seem to miss them.

No, I don't think a strict meal schedule is appropriate for anyone. Every day differs for me how much I eat. I expect the same with my kids and allow them to tell me when they're hungry or full. We don't keep much junk food in the house so I'm okay with DD grazing on healthy food all day. I'm a grazer, too though so I get it. If she says she doesn't want dinner we don't force it. If later on she wants a snack, great I give her a choice of dinner or another healthy option. I never want to make food a power struggle. I want her to listen to her body.

Sure, some days that's exactly what we do, much like @Ree723: . If we go out to brunch, usually I'll feed them a breakfasty snack (banana and cereal bar), then treat brunch like lunch, a snack after naptime, then dinner. Works just fine for us.

Never ever. It would be a global meltdown! We're low blood sugar in our house, so three meals plus snacks are necessary.

Never. I will always offer 3 meals a day and 2 -3 snacks a day. Eating smaller meals is better for him to be able to regulate himself and be in tune with his hunger and fullness cues. I get that he doesn't always eat much at any given meal (and more at others), but i prefer to always offer now and maintain those habits rather than get in the habit of going too long without eating, which could result in overeating or bingeing behaviour (i work in the eating disorders field and work with registered dietitians, so i feel pretty strongly about this!).

Not exactly, but two big meals and a light meal work some days. I never know when though, other days DS can eat three or four big meals.

We do a roughly two meal a day schedule. My girls are late sleepers so by the time we get up and moving, it is usually 9:30 or later before they have breakfast, and they usually eat monstrous sized breakfasts! They go down for a nap at 12:30 so I may or may not give them a little snack of cheese and fruit before their sleep, depending on how tired they are and how much they ate for breakfast. They sleep/rest for 3-4 hours, so by the time they get up, it's nearly time for dinner. I usually give them a snack to tide them over for an hour or so until I can get dinner on the table, and then they usually eat a good sized dinner.

Now on the two mornings a week LO1 has preschool, it's a bit different and she tends to have three smaller meals a day, but LO2 usually stays on two meals a day and two snacks.

ETA: This schedule is pretty much exactly how I eat as well. I've never been a lunch eater but am a huge breakfast eater! I tend to graze throughout the day and then eat a balanced dinner. I didn't necessarily mean to instil these habits on my girls but when you're a SAHM, it's just the way it works out I guess :bummed:

K eats more like 5 meals a day, so I bet two big meals and some snacks would work for us. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me (I get super hangry if I don't eat something every few hours), so we probably wouldn't.

On the weekends, we usually eat both breakfast and lunch late. My husband and I almost never eat "dinner" on days like that. But my kids always ask for dinner!! Even three hours after eating an enormous lunch, like 3-4 pm, at 6-7 they are asking for dinner. SO. I guess it wouldn't work for us just yet!

Yep, J's not a big eater and I don't force food on him. I always offer three meals but if he doesn't eat one I'm not going to stress over it.
As an adult, I typically eat one and a half meals a day. I try to only eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full.

No but we usually have a small or late (but bigger) breakfast if they eat at home. Like today lo1 had an egg, half a sliced Apple and most of a banana for breakfast and that was enough.

Sometimes we do because he'll refuse a meal. I don't really worry about it as much as I did when he was a baby because now he can tell me he is hungry and then if he asks for cookies I just say no and suggest something more nutritious if he hasn't had a meal in awhile.

We were kind of doing this for a while when I had the kids home. We would have a big breakfast (eggs, fruit, oatmeal or bread). Then for lunch I would just do snacks- usually something like nuts/dried fruit, carrot sticks and a yogurt. Lots of times we ate out of the house wherever we were that day. Then dinner would be big again- protein, cooked veg, starch and salad. They ate really well that way!

ETA: They rarely asked for snacks when we were eating like this. I also think it was way better than the way they are eating now which is essentially snacking all day but I can't do much about it because breakfast and lunch are at school.

I wouldn't because his behavior gets worse when he's hungry. Sometimes we forget to do an afternoon snack and then he's way more cranky and whiney and demanding. I also figure it's better for him to learn to self regulate food. Pushing to eat a large meal is kind of counter to what we need to do as adults.

Depends on how much they snack. I think two meals with no snacks is too infrequent, regardless of the amount of food. If there is snacking in between, I could see it working.

We eat three regular meals with little snacking.

I often ask myself why I even bother with some meals, but that's usually dinner...I think they would starve at night! My kids are snackers so I wish I could get better about serving healthy things every few hours and skipping the scheduled meals altogether.

We have been serving three meals a day to our kids ever since they were born. But the other day we were in a hurry and the kids had a small breakfast, and then they devoured lunch. And also had a good dinner, which is a surprise because usually when they eat a good lunch then they don't eat much at dinner.

That got me thinking that maybe the kids just don't want to eat three meals a day? I was wondering if anyone has ever tried two meals a day and if that worked for your family.
