DH went to an all male boarding school that was about 8 hrs from his home from grades 7-12. He insists that if we have any boys they will be going there as well; however I can't fathom allowing my child to be that far from me on an everyday basis. Luckily LO#1 is a girl so I don't have to worry about it but am somewhat worried about LO#2 since we are team green. A day student at a boarding school (heck it could have been the same one since I'm from the Boston area too!). I was on campus from very early in the morning to pretty late at night most days. I pretty much slept and showered at home. And on the weekends I was either staying at a friends, or had friends staying with me. Where I went to school only about 15% of the students were day students. All of my friends who were boarders loved it. But I will say the majority of them lived within an hour or so of the school so they saw their parents all the time (parents would come to campus to watch games, or the kids went home on the weekends). Honestly I did learn a lot of independence and the education was superior to what I would have received at a public school. My husband went to boarding school and thought it really taught him how to be independent. If I had a gifted child that I didn't feel I could provide all the advanced education they wanted through homeschool, I would consider it for high school.<br /> My little sister is in a boarding school, a music one. Their orchestra and choir tour the US and Canada, sometimes international. Say we lived in a terrible school district, and our child was really bright and offered a great scholarship to an incredible boarding school. Assuming that this was the BEST option for them to get an excellent education, I would absolutely support that. We'd drop him off at 7am and pick him up at 10pm though! He might as well have lived there! </p> <p>I would consider it if it were a REALLY great school and more than 30 mins from home. And they got a scholarship... haha. Boarding schools are not cheap!
