My 2 year old wasn't a stroller fan until #2 came along and was using "her" stroller. Now she asks to go in the new double every day so she can ride with her sister. I'd totally get one second hand given your circumstances. You can always resell and get something back At least.

I have a sit n stand stroller for my 3 year old and 2 month old. It works really well for us because my big kid likes the options of riding or walking with me, and it's easy for her to hop on and off. We've set it up with the car seat on the front position of the stroller facing me for the baby, and the toddler in the sit n stand board facing me, too. It really helps distract her being able to look at me and talk to me during our walks.

If you're going to try to use it for a workout, I'd look for a double Bob used. At least that way you have the option of taking on grass/rougher terrain at say a park and/or jogging with it if you're feeling really ambitious. They also hold value fairly well so you could probably flip it without losing too much after a year or whatever.

My 3.5 year old is so rarely in the stroller anymore. She'll only go in if we've been at the zoo for four hours. I wouldn't count on your oldest being amenable to sitting during a workout.
My big girl goes to bed an hour after my little girls so I often use that time to run to the park with her and our dog. She likes to run with me.

My kids are 4 and 18m and we use double all the time. But I use it for running and longer walks in our area (we live near beach and playground and it's too long of a walk for older but also nice to walk rather than drive. ).

I would 100% get one in this case. Maybe more of a sit and stand so the 3 year old can kinda hop on and off. Or stand and you can keep them close without them feeling like they are really in a stroller

@SLR: what about a buggy board for your 3.5 year old and the current stroller for the baby? With an Ergo as the option for if the older one really needs to ride?

Like @Mrs. Bee: , I got my double (used) when my youngest was one, so the oldest had just turned 3. I think it's worth buying a nicer stroller (but paying less used) is worth it if you can do so, because better-built doubles handle much nicer than the cheapies.

Thanks everyone. I will check out all the options!

I did forget to mention that my three month old does not like to be worn. We might need to work on that now though!

i couldn't have lived without a double stroller and didn't get one until olive was a year old. we used it soo much it was totally worth it. and kids that hate strollers when they're young usually love them when they're older and lazier.

you can buy one used and sell it if it doesn't work out.

The problem with a side by side is that it is hard or impossible to get through doorways . I would also go with wearing the baby and using the stroller for the older LO. another option would be to get a wagon. When I had three young ones the wagon was great I was able to buy a trailer that attached to the wagon so all three could ride. Your older Lo might like the wagon better.

I wouldn't buy a double strolder at this point, so I would wear the baby and put your older LO in the stroller. Another idea is that you could buy a scooter board attachment for your current stroller for your lo to ride on.

I would consider it, but buy used incase your older one refuses to use it. I don't have any experience with a double, but just based on what I see on the streets, I think I would prefer a side by side instead of a tandem. One of the kids always looks cramped/smooshed in a tandem.

Maybe try putting her in your current stroller (with snacks) and wearing the baby? Just long enough to figure out whether your toddler will accept stroller time?

If she doesn't tolerate it, then there's no reason to buy another, I would think.

Here is the backstory: My husband has been injured and will be needing a couple surgeries on his leg. He will be on crutches for a few months before being able to bear any weight at all. And after this first recovery (a fracture), they will likely have to go back and repair his ACL (the 2nd surgery). All in all, it could easily be a 12 month recovery.

So, for the time being, I'll have 100% of kid and house duties meanwhile trying to work full-time. I just returned from maternity leave three weeks ago, so I've exhausted any FMLA time.

I have a 3.5 year old and a 3 month old and am racking my brain on things to do to keep my oldest busy, and things I can easily do with a baby in tow. Because I obviously won't have much (or any) time to work out, I'm contemplating a double stroller to take my oldest to the park or for a stroll (assuming she's occupied with snacks) while the baby naps. I'm guessing that may be the only real exercise I'd get for a while.

Is it way too late for a double stroller? If not, any recommendations on what to get? I did see a used Chicco tandem stroller for $60 on Craigslist that appeared to be in good shape, but I really don't know about the advantages/disadvantages of this vs. a side-by-side, assuming I should even bother with one at this point.

Also - My oldest was never a fan of a stroller in the first place (therefore the need to occupy her with snacks) so I'd be looking for something not terribly expensive if I do get one.
