I decided not to do it early and will show my appreciation to them in other ways! Thank you ladies!

I wouldn't because I am super rise averse and afraid something might happen with the new daycare and what if the old one said sorry, you can't come back because we are full now!? I'm a huge worrier...

I didn't do it early because I was nervous. We knew our daycare would be short term (just shy of 3 months) but I didn't tell them that because I was afraid they wouldn't accept us. There are always waiting lists, they won't have trouble filling the spot.

what about giving them extra notice but waiting until after the 1st so they can't fill the space for the month?

Do you have backup childcare if they tell you not to come back after vacation? If not I wouldn't give extra notice, especially since this just happened to a HB member

After what happened to Babyboeksmom I wouldn't. If the risk is that they drop you early and you get stuck without childcare, I wouldn't.

I would if you trust them and like them. I mean, they will fill his spot so the more time they know the better. Plus I would feel guilty.

If you have a good, trusting relationship with them, I would. You're not doing anything wrong by waiting until 2 weeks out, but I always think it helps to have extra notice for things. Then again, I'm the person who told her boss she was leaving work 4 months ahead of time, soooo....

I agree with @youboots:

When people say you shouldn't burn bridges, that doesn't mean you have to go above and beyond. As long as you do what they require, you're doing "the right thing" and it shouldn't harm your relationship. Plus you'll be on vacation anyway, so it's not like you'll see them every day and feel bad that you know something you aren't telling them.

I would not personally. You are honoring their policy which I think is gracious enough. Perhaps a thank you card or edible arrangement would be a nice gesture.

@teawithpaloma: If they are good people and have been fair to people in the past, then I would tell them - especially since it's only a difference of two weeks! You never know if things will work at the center, and having a good relationship could mean it's easier to come back to the old daycare.

We are heading out of town for almost 3 weeks and when we return it will be my LO's last two weeks at her current daycare. We're paying for all of the time while we're away. A center across the street finally took us off the waitlist! So, we're happy to tell them tomorrow, giving them over 4 weeks but I remembered seeing a thread where this backfired on the mom. They are good people and I'd like to be as transparent as possible as it causes me less anxiety when I am transparent. But I am silly for going above what the contract requires of us?
